Anaerobic Glycolysis or Embden–Meyerhof Pathway
2019Embden–Meyerhof pathway is the name given to the anaerobic metabolic degradation of glucose. We consider some basic concepts: the importance of pyruvic acid as an acceptor of hydrogen ions, similar to that of oxygen in cells with mitochondria.

The Inhibition of Anaerobic Glycolysis in Red Cells by Leukaemic Leucocytes
British Journal of Haematology, 1967SUMMARYRates of anaerobic glycolysis were determined simultaneously in the red cells and leucocytes of patients with malignant haematologic disorders. The disappearance of glucose and the evolution of CO2 from bicarbonate were measured in the same Warburg flasks over the same period of time.In four patients with lymphogenous leukaemia and in one with ...

Total ischemia III: Effect of inhibition of anaerobic glycolysis
Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, 1989The effect of inhibition of glycolysis with sodium iodoacetate (IAA) on the changes induced by total ischemia was studied in canine left ventricle. Hearts were excised from phenobarbital anesthetized dogs and the circumflex (LCC) and anterior descending (LAD) branches of the left coronary artery were perfused in order to expose the LCC region to 48 ...

Measurements have been made of the rate of pH fall post-mortem in excised beef sternomandibularis muscles held in a linear temperature gradient. A minimum rate of pH fall was observed between 10 and 12°C and the rate increased as the temperature was ...

Anaerobic glycolysis in normal and denervated salivary glands
Experimental Cell Research, 1961Abstract The glycolysis in vitro of normal and previously denervated salivary glands was studied. It is suggested that glycolysis can furnish energy for secretion in cats' salivary glands. In the cat but not in the rabbit parasympathetic denervation caused a decreased rate. Sympathetic denervation caused an increased rate of glycolysis.

Effect of Injection of Adrenaline on the Anaerobic Glycolysis of Rat Diaphragm
Nature, 1947Part of the action of adrenaline in raising the blood sugar has been attributed by Cori et al.1 to a decrease in utilization of glucose by the tissues. Other workers arrived at different conclusions.

Regulation of anaerobic glycolysis in Ehrlich ascites tumour cells
19771) In intact Ehrlich ascites tumour cells the anaerobic glycolytic flux rate and pattern of intermediates have been investigated at different pH values of the extracellular medium. 2) As predicted from the dependence of the lactic acid dehydrogenase equilibrium on pH a strong negative correlation between log ([lactate]/[pyruvate]) and pH has been found.
