Smart food‐sharing platforms for social sustainability: a heuristic algorithm approach

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines how smart food‐sharing platforms (SFSP) can help reduce food waste and suggests a method for using smart contracts to share extra food among different partners effectively. For smart contracts to work automatically and prevent food wastage, artificial intelligence systems can recognize how smart clauses should be executed ...

Periodontitis and Periodontal Conditions in Systemically Healthy Children and Adolescents

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To answer the PICoS question ‘in systemically healthy children and adolescents (Population), what are the main features of periodontitis, necrotising periodontal diseases (NPD) and other periodontal conditions (periodontal abscesses, endo‐periodontal lesions, traumatic occlusal forces, prosthesis‐ and tooth‐related factors ...

Oral‐Rinse‐Sourced Microbiota in Oral Health and Diseases in a Representative US Adult Population: Implications for Diagnostics

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims To investigate the associations between oral‐rinse microbiota and distinct oral conditions, and further evaluate its potential ability to distinguish periodontitis severity. Methods Oral‐rinse‐sourced microbiota with 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing from 3770 adults in US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2009–2012 were ...

Towards the development of upgrade criteria for the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa with biologics

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Forty‐three HS specialists from 22 European countries reported adherence to HS guidelines and use of antibiotics before biologics despite limited efficacy and rapid relapse (49% within 1–3 months). Seventy‐nine per cent supported short‐term biologics for severe Hurley I disease.

Oxygen consumption from air and water, ammonia and urea‐N excretion, and Na+ fluxes during progressive aquatic hypoxia in Amazonian armoured catfish Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps and Pterygoplichthys pardalis

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Amazonian loricariid fish Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, from the Rio Negro, and Pterygoplichthys pardalis, from the Rio Solimões, are facultative air‐breathers that can use the stomach as an air‐breathing organ. Measurement of oxygen uptake under progressive aquatic hypoxia revealed a relatively high hypoxia resistance of both species.

Microbiota and clinical outcomes of implant‐supported full‐mandible dentures on patients with a history of periodontitis: A 5‐year prospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To characterize the microbiota of implant‐supported full‐mandible dentures and its correlation to clinical outcomes for up to 5 years after implant loading in patients with a history of periodontal disease. Materials and Methods Twelve individuals with a history of periodontitis (Stage IV and Grade B) received five immediate implants ...

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.

Autoimmunity and Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
In a microbe‐driven inflammatory environment, peptidyl‐arginine deiminase (PAD) enzymes from neutrophils and Porphyromonas gingivalis citrullinate both microbial and self‐antigens. B cell presentation of citrullinated or self‐mimicking epitopes activates T cells that assist B cells in antibody isotype switching, affinity maturation, epitope spreading ...
