Optimizing isotopic measurement of potential free‐living nitrogen fixation in soil

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 89, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract Direct measurements of free‐living nitrogen fixation (FLNF) using 15N‐labeled dinitrogen (15N2) have been complicated by a lack of standardization regarding soil sampling and storage, and because key incubation parameters have yet to be systematically optimized. With the aim of developing a standardized protocol for laboratory assay of carbon (

Effect of temperature, pH and plasmids on in vitro biofilm formation in Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Acid resistance (AR) in Escherichia coli is an important trait that protects this microorganism from the deleterious effect of low-pH environments. Reports on biofilm formation in E.

Modeling the influence of rhizodeposits on root water uptake

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract The chemical compounds that plant roots release into the soil, referred to as rhizodeposits, affect soil hydraulic properties like the surface tension and viscosity of soil water, and the contact angle between menisci and the pore surface.

Effects of Anoxia on Amino Acid Levels in Rice Coleoptiles

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2006
Effects of anoxia on the levels of free-amino acids were investigated in the coleoptiles of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings. Rice coleoptiles are able to grow in extremely low oxygen conditions.

Transition Zones at the Changing Coastal Terrestrial‐Aquatic Interface

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 130, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract Coastal soils are a significant but highly uncertain component of global biogeochemical cycles. These systems experience spatial and temporal variability in biogeochemical processes, driven by marsh‐to‐upland gradients and hydrological fluctuations.

The growth and respiration of the Avena coleoptile [PDF]

open access: yes, 1936
In a previous paper (1) a relation was shown to exist between the respiration of the plant cell and its elongation under the influence of the plant growth hormone.

Attenuated Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: A Promising Cell Factory for Rhamnolipid Production

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 11, November 2025.
PGN strains are generated by the deletion of virulence factor genes. The metabolic pathways and regulatory frameworks that lead to high‐efficiency production of rhamnolipids in P. aeruginosa are preserved in these strains. Therefore, PGN strains are promising bio‐safe cell factories for the industrial production of rhamnolipids.

Time dynamics of the Bacillus cereus exoproteome are shaped by cellular oxidation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
At low density, Bacillus cereus cells release a large variety of proteins into the extracellular medium when cultivated in pH-regulated, glucose-containing minimal medium, either in the presence or absence of oxygen. The majority of these exoproteins are

Microbial Conversion of Glycerol Into 1,3‐Propanediol by Fermentation: Review of Fundamentals and Operational Strategies

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 11, November 2025.
This review highlights recent advances in microbial fermentation strategies for converting glycerol, a biodiesel by‐product, into 1,3‐propanediol. It discusses metabolic pathways, microbial inocula and key operational parameters to optimise production, supporting sustainable chemical synthesis aligned with circular economy principles. ABSTRACT Over the
