Cell-penetrating pepducins targeting the neurotensin receptor type 1 relieve pain [PDF]

open access: yesPharmacological Research. 104750 (2020), 2020
Pepducins are cell-penetrating, membrane-tethered lipopeptides designed to target the intracellular region of a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) in order to allosterically modulate the receptor's signaling output. In this proof-of-concept study, we explored the pain-relief potential of a pepducin series derived from the first intracellular loop of ...

The analgesia of methoxyflurane [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Anaesthetists’ Society Journal, 1963
A preliminary study was made of analgesia produced by methoxyflurane in oxygen in eleven patients undergoing surgery. Methoxyflurane was found to be safe and excellent as an analgesic agent. An associated drowsiness was also noticed, similar to that seen in the postanaesthetic period of conventional methoxyflurane anaesthesia.

A prospective, multicentre, observational cohort study of analgesia and outcome after pneumonectomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Meta-analysis and systematic reviews of epidural compared with paravertebral blockade analgesia techniques for thoracotomy conclude that although the analgesia is comparable, paravertebral blockade has a better short-term side-effect profile ...

Association Between Burst-Suppression Latency and Burst-Suppression Ratio Under Isoflurane or Adjuvant Drugs With Isoflurane Anesthesia in Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
The same doses of anesthesia may yield varying depths of anesthesia in different patients. Clinical studies have revealed a possible causal relationship between deep anesthesia and negative short- and long-term patient outcomes. However, a reliable index

Postoperative Pain Management After Sternotomy In Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery - A Comparative Study Between NSAID (Diclofenac Sodium) and Opioid (Pethidine)

open access: yesBangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Journal, 2011
Background: Traditionally, postoperative pain has been managed either reactively with drugs given as needed or proactively with continuous infusion of analgesics. Objectives:The present prospective comparative study was carried out to find difference in

Distributed Real-Time Emulation of Formally-Defined Patterns for Safe Medical Device Control [PDF]

open access: yesEPTCS 36, 2010, pp. 158-177, 2010
Safety of medical devices and of their interoperation is an unresolved issue causing severe and sometimes deadly accidents for patients with shocking frequency. Formal methods, particularly in support of highly reusable and provably safe patterns which can be instantiated to many device instances can help in this regard. However, this still leaves open

Effect of continuous intraoperative infusion of methoxamine on renal function in elderly patients undergoing gastrointestinal tumor surgery: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2020
Background Acute renal injury (AKI) caused by hypotension often occurs in elderly patients after gastrointestinal tumor surgery. Although vasoactive drugs can increase effective filtration pressure, they may increase renal vascular resistance and reduce ...

Using LOR Syringe Probes as a Method to Reduce Errors in Epidural Analgesia -- a Robotic Simulation Study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Epidural analgesia involves injection of anesthetics into the epidural space, using a Touhy needle to proceed through the layers in the epidural region and a "loss of resistance" (LOR) syringe to sense the environment stiffness. The anesthesiologist's case experience is one of the leading causes of accidental dural puncture and failed epidural - the ...

The Antitumor Peptide ERα17p Exerts Anti-Hyperalgesic and Anti-Inflammatory Actions Through GPER in Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2021
Persistent inflammation and persistent pain are major medical, social and economic burdens. As such, related pharmacotherapy needs to be continuously improved.

Neuropeptide Y and its involvement in chronic pain [PDF]

open access: yes2017,Neuroscience, 2017
Chronic pain is a serious condition that significantly impairs the quality of life, affecting an estimate of 1.5 billion people worldwide. Despite the physiological, emotional and financial burden of chronic pain, there is still a lack of efficient treatments.
