Electrostatic anti-spring-enhanced MEMS accelerometer with auto-tuning capability

open access: yesMicrosystems & Nanoengineering
This study introduces a MEMS accelerometer equipped with an adaptive tuning system for an electrostatic anti-spring. As the input acceleration increases, the sensitivity of the adaptive MEMS accelerometer decreases to compensate for the measurement range.

An optimized protocol to detect high‐throughput DNA methylation from custom targeted sequences on 96 samples simultaneously

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Workflow of a high‐throughput technology for epigenotyping of differentially methylated CpGs in specific regions of the genome. The protocol works with small amounts of DNA extracted from blood or semen. The protocol consists of both enzymatic conversion of unmethylated cytosines and capture by hybridization with a custom panel.

Phosphomimetic mutations near active sites of proteins in Thermus thermophilus suggest a widespread regulatory mechanism

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In Thermus thermophilus, more than half of the phosphorylation sites identified by proteomic analysis are located near the active site. All phosphomimetic mutants of phosphosites of six enzymes belonging to different families showed severely reduced activity compared with the wild‐type, particularly in the turnover number.

Electrical pulse stimulation reflecting the episodic nature of real‐life exercise modulates metabolic and secretory profile of primary human myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Here, we introduced an intermittent electrical stimulation protocol mimicking the episodic nature of real‐life exercise in vitro by alternating low‐ and high‐frequency stimulation. In comparison with widely used continuous stimulation, it enhanced the rate of glucose and fatty acid oxidation, but not the myokine release.

A MEMS electro-mechanical co-optimization platform featuring freeform geometry optimization based on a genetic algorithm

open access: yesMicrosystems & Nanoengineering
This paper describes a novel, system-level design methodology based on a genetic algorithm (GA) using freeform geometries for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices.

The impact of Hnrnpl deficiency on transcriptional patterns of developing muscle cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We performed nanopore whole‐transcriptome sequencing comparing RNA from Hnrnpl‐knockdown versus control C2C12 myoblasts to investigate the contributions of Hnrnpl to muscle development. Our results indicate that Hnrnpl regulates the expression of genes involved with Notch signaling and skeletal muscle, particularly splicing patterns of specific muscle ...
