Embedded systems interact with the outer real world processing information received from it and delivering back an output to modify the performance of a device or to provide information needed to make decisions. In this environment, most signals to be processed are analog.

Telecommunications uses both analog and digital signals. We are most familiar with analog signals, because humans are analog devices. That is, the sensations we experience, such as sounds, images, tastes, and touches, vary greatly and in a continuous fashion.

Design of signals for analog communication
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1970A method for the design of time-limited and effectively band-limited waveforms for analog communication systems is developed. The design problem is first formulated in the L_2 (0, T) space. Nonlinear modulation threshold effects are incorporated directly into the design by introducing constraints in the form of minimum distance between points on the ...

Resistance-capacitance (RC) and inductance-capacitance (LC) oscillators were historically the first generators of continuous (analog) signals. Properly speaking, almost all oscillators have been analog signal oscillators till the beginning of this century.

Harmonic retrieval of analog signals
IEEE Transactions on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1988A harmonic retrieval algorithm, analogous to that of V. Pisarenko (1973), is derived for extracting harmonics from analog data. The analog hardware required consists of integrators and power meters. The power meter outputs are sampled and a Hankel matrix is formed from these quantities.

The Elements of Analog Signal Handling
1984Most transducers and laboratory signal sources yield output signals the magnitude of which carries at least a part of the information required in the measurement process. Such signals are called analog signals. It follows that most signal converter systems are required to handle analog signals, at least in the input stages of the converter circuit. One

Digitale Verarbeitung analoger Signale
