The effects of seawater on the durability of hydrotechnical (concrete) structures in the port of Klaipeda / Jūros vandens poveikis klaipėdos uosto hidrotechninių statinių (betono) ilgaamžiškumui

open access: yesEngineering Structures and Technologies, 2013
Seawater has a significant impact on hydrotechnical concrete structures in the Port of Klaipeda. This factor must be properly examined and evaluated designing reinforced concrete structures exploited in seawater.

QTL Analysis

open access: yes, 2006
The study of the intraspecific natural variation existing in Arabidopsis provides a useful resource for the dissection of its genome at the functional, ecological, and evolutionary levels. A major step in these studies is the identification and location of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) determining the variation for trait(s) of interest, so-called QTL ...

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Analysis and Quality Control from ARIMA Modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In this paper, we use ARIMA modelling to estimate a set of characteristics of a short-term indicator (for example, the index of industrial production), as trends, seasonal variations, cyclical oscillations, unpredictability, deterministic effects (as a ...

Exergy analysis of a PWR nuclear steam supply system - II part: a case study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The paper shows the results of the exergetic analysis of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) of the MARS Pressurized Light Water Reactor using the theoretical methodology described in the authors’ previous works [1] and [2].

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Near-threshold $\omega$-meson production in proton-proton collisions: With or without resonance excitations ?

open access: yes, 2002
We present results for the $p p \to p p \omega$ reaction studied by considering two different scenarios: with and without the inclusion of nucleon resonance excitations.

The elements of folklore music in the songs by The Beatles [PDF]

open access: yesZbornik Radova Akademije Umetnosti, 2019
In the mid-20th century, the expansion of popular music led to an increase in the number of amateur vocal-instrumental ensembles, primarily in the English speaking countries.

The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction
