An extended analysis of approximation algorithms for k-median problems on complex networks

open access: yesApplied Network Science
Abstract Finding the k -median in a network involves identifying a subset of k vertices that minimize the total distance to all other vertices in a graph. This problem has been extensively studied in computer science, graph theory, operations research, and numerous areas due

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Low-Complexity Distortionless Techniques for Peak Power Reduction in OFDM Communication Systems

open access: yesJournal of Computer Networks and Communications, 2012
A high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is one of the major drawbacks to using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation. The three most effective distortionless techniques for PAPR reduction are partial transmit sequence (PTS ...

Phase Transitions and Symmetry Breaking in Genetic Algorithms with Crossover

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper, we consider the role of the crossover operator in genetic algorithms. Specifically, we study optimisation problems that exhibit many local optima and consider how crossover affects the rate at which the population breaks the symmetry of ...

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Improved Mapping Algorithms Performance in NoCs Design Based on Cellular Learning Automata

open access: yesInternational Journal of Information and Communication Technology Research, 2014
NOC technology is a solution to cover the communication challenges of complex systems. The important note in the matter of application mapping for those of NoCs who are based on mesh architecture is their NP-hard problem.

Performance Analysis and Parallel Scalability of Numerical Methods for Fractional-in-Space Diffusion Problems with Adaptive Time Stepping

open access: yes
We study numerical methods and algorithms for time-dependent fractional-in-space diffusion problems. The considered anomalous diffusion is modelled by the fractional Laplacian (−Δ)α, 0<α<1, following the integral definition.

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Improving the Delay Performance of CSMA Algorithms: A Virtual Multi-Channel Approach

open access: yes, 2013
CSMA algorithms have recently received a significant amount of interest in the literature for designing efficient wireless control algorithms. CSMA algorithms are attractive because they incur low computation complexity and communication overhead, and ...
