Calibration of Clinical Audio Recording and Analysis Systems for Sound Intensity Measurement

American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, 2015
Purpose Sound intensity is an important acoustic feature of voice/speech signals. Yet recordings are performed with different microphone, amplifier, and computer configurations, and it is therefore crucial to calibrate sound intensity measures of clinical audio recording and analysis systems on the basis of output of a sound ...

Digital recording and computer-based analysis of lung sounds

Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2002
The human ear is one of the most efficient instrument for detecting patterns in acoustic signals. Therefore, auscultation is an important and easy to use tool in clinical diagnostic routines. A computer-based system for recording and analysis of lung sounds cannot replace the human ear, but can complement it.

Sound analysis of temporomandibular joint internal derangements with phonographic recordings

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2003
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) sound recordings could be analyzed to assess the state of TMJ internal derangements. The aim of the study was to assess the value of sound analysis in the diagnosis of the type of the TMJ internal derangements. After clinical and radiologic examinations, phonographic sound recordings on mandibular excursions were obtained in

Automated sound recorders: overview and meta-analysis

2019
This project contains the supplementary materials for reproducing the results from Darras et al. "Autonomous sound recording outperforms human observation for sampling birds: a systematic map and user guide" This includes a tabular overview of available sound recorders and how their specifications compare to each other, as well as an updated meta ...

Detection of Cough and Adventitious Respiratory Sounds in Audio Recordings by Internal Sound Analysis

2017
We present a multi-feature approach to the detection of cough and adventitious respiratory sounds. After the removal of near-silent segments, a vector of event boundaries is obtained and a proposed set of 126 features is extracted for each event. Evaluation was performed on a data set comprised of internal audio recordings from 18 patients.

Detection of explosive cough events in audio recordings by internal sound analysis

2017 39th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2017
We present a new method for the discrimination of explosive cough events, which is based on a combination of spectral content descriptors and pitch-related features. After the removal of near-silent segments, a vector of event boundaries is obtained and a proposed set of 9 features is extracted for each event.

Performance analysis of seismocardiography for heart sound signal recording in noisy scenarios

Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology, 2016
This paper presents a system based on Seismocardiography (SCG) to monitor the heart sound signal for the long-term. It uses an accelerometer, which is of small size and low weight and, thus, convenient to wear. Such a system should also be robust to various noises which occur in real life scenarios.

An accurate recording system and its use in breath sounds spectral analysis

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1983
An accurate recording system was set up and used for analyzing normal and asthmatic breath-sound features. Breath sounds are recorded at the trachea simultaneously with the airflow signal at 0.5- and 1-1/s levels. The study was carried out in the frequency domain using a fast-fourier transform (FFT).

Directional Recording and Analysis of Sounds from Musical Instruments

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
The sound of musical instruments doesn't radiate omni directionally into the sound field. Moreover, each component of the sound (e.g. a partial) can have its own directivity pattern which, in turn, may also vary over time. In general, the radiated sound in free space will have a different timbre at different locations around the sound source.
