Post-9/11 veterans perceptions of the pandemic: Areas of greatest impact on health and well-being

open access: yesPEC Innovation, 2022
Objective: Assess potential impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on a subset of Post-9/11 U.S. Veterans included in a study of post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE).

Ensuring fair, safe, and interpretable artificial intelligence-based prediction tools in a real-world oncological setting

open access: yesCommunications Medicine, 2023
Background Cancer patients often experience treatment-related symptoms which, if uncontrolled, may require emergency department admission. We developed models identifying breast or genitourinary cancer patients at the risk of attending emergency ...

Profiling the inflammatory bowel diseases using genetics, serum biomarkers, and smoking information

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are two etiologically related yet distinctive subtypes of the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Differentiating CD from UC can be challenging using conventional clinical approaches in a subset of

Asymmetric Shapes of Radio Recombination Lines from Ionized Stellar Winds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Recombination line profile shapes are derived for ionized spherical stellar winds at radio wavelengths. It is assumed that the wind is optically thick owing to free-free opacity.

A Set of Criteria for Logistics Center Development: A Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process

open access: yesJournal of Eta Maritime Science, 2022
This research aimed to determine and prioritize a set of criteria for the development of logistics centers. Both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods were used to achieve the research aim.

Mutations in ATP13A2 (PARK9) are associated with an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-like phenotype, implicating this locus in further phenotypic expansion

open access: yesHuman Genomics, 2019
Background Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [1] is a genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by late-onset degeneration of motor neurons leading to progressive limb and bulbar weakness, as well as of the respiratory muscles ...

Galactic Substructure and Dark Matter Annihilation in the Milky Way Halo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We study the effects of substructure on the rate of dark-matter annihilation in the Galactic halo. We use an analytic model for substructure that can extend numerical simulation results to scales too small to be resolved by the simulations.

Gonchar-Stahl's $\rho^2$-theorem and associated directions in the theory of rational approximation of analytic functions

open access: yes, 2015
Gonchar-Stahl's $\rho^2$-theorem characterizes the rate of convergence of best uniform (Chebyshev) rational approximations (with free poles) for one basic class of analytic functions.

Homogeneous analytic center cutting plane methods with approximate centers

open access: yesOptimization Methods and Software, 1999
In this paper we consider a homogeneous analytic center cutting plane method in a projective space. We describe a general scheme that uses a homogeneous oracle and computes an approximate analytic center at each iteration. This technique is applied to a convex feasibility problem, to variational inequalities, and to convex constrained minimization.

Confinement and center vortices in Coulomb gauge: analytic and numerical results

open access: yes, 2004
We review the confinement scenario in Coulomb gauge. We show that when thin center vortex configurations are gauge transformed to Coulomb gauge, they lie on the common boundary of the fundamental modular region and the Gribov region.
