Ammonia Synthesis at Room Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure from N2: A Boron‐Radical Approach

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 62, Issue 3, January 16, 2023., 2023
Boron‐centered radicals, generated by reduction of R2BCl derivatives, react with N2 all the way to borylamine formation. DFT calculations rationalize the reduction/functionalization process, involving N−N bond splitting. Hydrolysis of the mixture yields NH4+. Radical addition to N2 provides a new strategy for N2 fixation.

The Contributions of James Moir to Physical Chemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
James Moir was a pioneering chemist in the early 1900s who played a leading role in various chemical societies in South Africa. Although he was mainly an organic chemist, he was a very good all-round chemist, whose analytical and organic activities have ...

Chemistry research in India in a global perspective- A scientometrics profile [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Papers from India are cited 14.68 times on average compared to cites per paper of 45.34 for Singapore, 30.47 for USA, 23.12 for China, 26.51 for the UK, 21.77 for South Korea and 24.77 for Germany. Less than 39% of papers from India are found in quartile 1 (high impact factor) journals, compared to 53.6% for China and 53.8% for South Korea.

Estimating numerical errors due to operator splitting in global atmospheric chemistry models: Transport and chemistry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computational Physics, 2015, 2015
We present upper bounds for the numerical errors introduced when using operator splitting methods to integrate transport and non-linear chemistry processes in global chemical transport models (CTM). We show that (a) operator splitting strategies that evaluate the stiff non-linear chemistry operator at the end of the time step are more accurate, and (b)

Superchaotropic Nano‐ion Binding as a Gelation Motif in Cellulose Ether Solutions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 62, Issue 3, January 16, 2023., 2023
Nano‐ions, like polyoxometalates and boron clusters, co‐assemble strongly with non‐ionic solutes in water driven by the chaotropic effect. Here, nano‐ion assembly with non‐ionic cellulose ethers (CE) is shown to result in unprecedented thickening effects and gelation of CE‐solutions. An interplay of electrostatic repulsion and attraction between chains

Salicylate method for ammonia quantification in nitrogen electroreduction experiments: The correction of iron III interference [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
[EN] The salicylate method is one of the ammonia quantification methods that has been extensively used in literature for quantifying ammonia in the emerging field of nitrogen (electro)fixation.

Gas phase production of NHD2 in L134N [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We show analytically that large abundances of NH2D and NHD2 can be produced by gas phase chemistry in the interiors of cold dense clouds. The calculated fractionation ratios are in good agreement with the values that have been previously determined in L134N and suggest that triply-deuterated ammonia could be detectable in dark clouds.

Pharmacokinetics, Efficacy, and Safety of Upadacitinib in Pediatric Patients With Polyarticular‐Course Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: An Interim Analysis of an Open‐Label, Phase 1 Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This work aimed to evaluate the pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and safety of upadacitinib, an oral selective JAK inhibitor, in pediatric patients with polyarticular‐course juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pcJIA). Methods In an open‐label, phase 1 study (SELECT‐YOUTH), enrolled patients, aged 2 to <18 years with pcJIA, received body weight–based ...
