Analytical ultracentrifugation in a Gibbsian perspective
Biophysical Chemistry, 2000The analytical ultracentrifuge has come into new intensive use following complete instrumental redesign and the use of advanced computer technologies for the analysis and interpretation of experimental results. Major attention is now devoted to the evaluation of interactions between similar and dissimilar biological macromolecules in dilute and ...

New revolutions in the evolution of analytical ultracentrifugation
Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 1996The use of the biophysical technique of analytical ultracentrifugation has recently undergone a resurgence. The commercial availability of the Beckman optima XL-A and XL-I analytical ultracentrifuges along with the continued growth in computing ability and analysis software has led to the expanded use of analytical ultracentrifugation and its ...

Analytical Cell for the Ultracentrifuge
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1942An analytical cell has been designed for the angle type quantity rotor of the air-driven ultracentrifuge. Sieve-like partitions covered with filter paper separate the cell into two or three compartments from which fractions can be removed for chemical analysis or for bioassay. Fourteen tubes each containing 4.5 cc of solution can be run simultaneously.

Applying analytical ultracentrifugation to nanocrystal suspensions
Nanotechnology, 2009While applied frequently in physical biochemistry to the study of protein complexes, the quantitative use of analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) for nanocrystal analysis is relatively rare. Its application in nanoscience is potentially very powerful as it provides a measure of nanocrystal density, size and structure directly in the solution phase ...

Analytical ultracentrifugation in colloid chemistry
2004Analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) has proven to be a valuable tool for the study of colloids since its invention by Svedberg, who initially used it for the particle size characterization of gold colloids. The character of colloids raises analytical questions, which are often different from those which are commonly addressed for biopolymers ...

Optical alignment procedure for the analytical ultracentrifuge
Analytical Biochemistry, 1964Abstract A complete alignment procedure, utilizing new adjustable optical elecments, is presented for the schlieren/interference optical system of the analytical ultracentrifuge. The practical and theoretical considerations underlying each individual alignment method are presented as well as a “troubleshooting” chart for evaluating and eliminating ...

The CFA Analytical Ultracentrifuge Architecture
2016As part of the Open AUC Project, the CFA is the next generation of analytical ultracentrifuge. The design philosophy of the CFA, which is to encourage hardware and software innovation, has been published. However, the hardware and software that allow and encourage future development have not been described previously. Presented here is the CFA hardware
