A Study of the Immunological Relationship of Anaplasma Marginale and Anaplasma Centrale

Research in Veterinary Science, 1967
SUMMARY A total of 112 experimental cases of anaplasmosis using Anaplasma marginale (from 3 sources) and Anaplasma centrale, in splenectomized calves, non-splenectomized calves, yearlings and adult cattle, have been studied to measure the immunological relationship of these anaplasms.

Identification of immunodominant polypeptides common between Anaplasma centrale and Anaplasma marginale

Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1991
High titered antibody from rabbits immunized with Anaplasma centrale or from cattle recovered from A. centrale infection bound predominantly to several 33-36 kDa polypeptides present in both A. centrale and the Israel-NT isolate of Anaplasma marginale. High titered bovine antibody against the Israel-NT isolate of A. marginale also reacted predominantly

Evaluation of sequential coinfection with Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Anaplasma marginale in cattle

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 2008
Abstract Objective—To determine whether sequelae of infection differed among single versus double infection with Anaplasma phagocytophilum or Anaplasma marginale, with and without tick salivary extract, in cattle. Animals—Eighteen 13-month old steers. Procedures—Treatment groups of 3 cattle each included A marginale inoculated ID followed on day 35 by ...

Anaplasma ovis in Idaho Sheep

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1981
SUMMARY Blood samples from 16 anaplasmosis complement-fixation (cf) positive sheep from a flock near Cambridge, Idaho, were inoculated into 3 intact sheep and 3 splenectomized calves. The 3 sheep became cf positive, and 2 developed parasitemia. None of the 3 calves had signs of anaplasmosis, but all became ill when they were subsequently challenge ...

The natural history of Anaplasma marginale

Veterinary Parasitology, 2010
The intracellular pathogen Anaplasma marginale (Rickettsiales: Anaplasmataceae), described by Sir Arnold Theiler in 1910, is endemic worldwide in tropical and subtropical areas. Infection of cattle with A. marginale causes bovine anaplasmosis, a mild to severe hemolytic disease that results in considerable economic loss to both dairy and beef ...

Anaplasma phagocytophilum Infection in a Child

Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2008
This is the first case of Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection described in Cyprus. A 9-year-old girl was infected after a tick-bite. The infection was diagnosed by molecular-based detection of the bacterium in 2 blood samples. The polymerase chain reaction product was sequenced, revealing a novel strain of Anaplasma phagocytophilum.

The natural history of Anaplasma phagocytophilum

Veterinary Parasitology, 2010
Anaplasma phagocytophilum is the recently designated name replacing three species of granulocytic bacteria, Ehrlichia phagocytophila, Ehrlichia equi and the agent of human granulocytic ehrlichiosis, after the recent reorganization of the families Rickettsiaceae and Anaplasmataceae in the order Rickettsiales.

Anaplasma marginale and Anaplasma phagocytophilum: Rickettsiales pathogens of veterinary and public health significance

Parasitology Research, 2015
Anaplasma marginale and Anaplasma phagocytophilum are the most important tick-borne bacteria of veterinary and public health significance in the family Anaplasmataceae. The objective of current review is to provide knowledge on ecology and epidemiology of A. phagocytophilum and compare major similarities and differences of A.
