Bovine carriers of Anaplasma marginale and Anaplasma bovis in South India
Carriers of bovine anaplasmosis in Northern Kerala, South India were detected using conventional microscopical and molecular techniques. PCR-RFLP and nested PCR techniques were used for detection of Anaplasma marginale and Anaplasma bovis respectively ...

Freeze-drying of Anaplasma marginale.
Heparinized whole blood, heavily parasitized with Anaplasma marginale, was collected from 3 splenectomized oxen. Buffered lactose peptone (BLP) was added to equal volumes as a stabilizer and the mixture lyophilized in 2 ml aliquots after rapid freezing. The dried material was reconstituted with 2 ml sterile water and inoculated without delay.

DNA probes for the detection of Anaplasma centrale and Anaplasma marginale.
Anaplasmosis can be diagnosed either by immunological techniques or by direct microscopic examination of blood smears. Both methods are time-consuming and labour intensive. The use of DNA probes in an hybridization assay may simplify the diagnosis of anaplasmosis in cattle and sheep.

Anaplasma marginale causes a disease in cattle characterized by fever, anemia and decrease in milk and meat production. Small ruminants do not show signs of disease when infected, but it has been suggested they could act as reservoirs.
