Differential extraction of antigens of Anaplasma marginale
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1988SUMMARY Strain-, group-, and genus-specific antigens of the Florida isolate of Anaplasma marginale had different solubilities in zwitterionic, nonionic, and anionic detergents. On the basis of their solubility in nonionic detergent, antigens were grouped into 3 classes: (i) a 108-kilodalton (kD) group-specific antigen and a series of poorly defined ...

Radioimmunoassay for Anaplasma marginale antibodies in cattle
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1988SUMMARY A radioimmunoassay is described for use in the detection of Anaplasma marginale antibodies in cattle sera. Optimal sensitivity and specificity were obtained by using 2 antigens, an A marginale antigen and a rbc antigen (obtained before infection was established) from the same calf. In addition, sera were preabsorbed with rbc from healthy cattle

Anaplasma marginale in Bovine Erythrocyte Cultures
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1980SUMMARY Bovine erythrocytes infected with Anaplasma marginale were standardized with normal bovine erythrocytes at 1.4% and 3.5% parasitemia and cultured under low oxygen pressure at 37 C. The number of erythrocytes infected by A marginale appeared to increase 3.3-fold by day 11 and 4.5-fold by day 3, as determined by microscopic examination of Giemsa ...

Genetic diversity of Anaplasma marginale in Argentina
Veterinary Parasitology, 2009Bovine anaplasmosis caused by Anaplasma marginale is a worldwide major constraint to cattle production. The A. marginale major surface protein 1 alpha (msp1alpha) gene contains a variable number of tandem repeats in the amino terminal region and has been used for the characterization of pathogen genetic diversity.

Seroprevalence of Anaplasma marginale in Texas Cattle
Preventive Veterinary Medicine, 2014To our knowledge the seroprevalence of Anaplasma marginale in Texas has not been reported. The objective of this study was to estimate the point seroprevalence and spatial distribution of Texas cattle persistently infected with A. marginale. This was a cross-sectional observational study examining serum collected from 12,000 adult cattle marketed in 23

Isolate of Anaplasma marginale not transmitted by ticks
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1986SUMMARY The tick-borne transmissibility of 2 isolates of Anaplasma marginale was compared. Dermacentor variabilis were exposed to A marginale as nymphs by feeding on 1 of 4 splenectomized calves during periods of ascending parasitemia (maximum 49% to 81% parasitized erythrocytes) induced by injection of a stabilate.

A Study of the Immunological Relationship of Anaplasma Marginale and Anaplasma Centrale
Research in Veterinary Science, 1967SUMMARY A total of 112 experimental cases of anaplasmosis using Anaplasma marginale (from 3 sources) and Anaplasma centrale, in splenectomized calves, non-splenectomized calves, yearlings and adult cattle, have been studied to measure the immunological relationship of these anaplasms.

Gram-Staining Characteristics of Anaplasma marginale
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1973SUMMARY Purified erythrocyte-free suspensions of Anaplasma marginale were stained by Gram's method, Giemsa stain, acridine orange (ao) stain, and fluorescent antibody (fa) stain. Anaplasma marginale was observed to be gram-negative. Morphologic characteristics that were not discernible by the other methods were not detected by Gram's method.

Finite Purification of Anaplasma marginale: Serologic Inactivity of the Anaplasma Body
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1977SUMMARY Anaplasma bodies finitely purified by affinity chromatography to eliminate all traces of erythrocytic stromata were not agglutinated by serum from calves having acute anaplasmosis. The stromata which were associated with the anaplasma bodies were also finitely purified and agglutinated with such serum.

Abstract Objective—To determine whether sequelae of infection differed among single versus double infection with Anaplasma phagocytophilum or Anaplasma marginale, with and without tick salivary extract, in cattle. Animals—Eighteen 13-month old steers. Procedures—Treatment groups of 3 cattle each included A marginale inoculated ID followed on day 35 by ...
