Molecular detection of tick-borne bacteria and protozoa in cervids and wild boars from Portugal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Wildlife can act as reservoir of different tick-borne pathogens, such as bacteria, parasites and viruses. The aim of the present study was to assess the presence of tick-borne bacteria and protozoa with veterinary and zoonotic importance in ...

A Suite of Pathogens Detected in Ticks Sampled From Wildlife Hosts in Central Kenya

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, September 2024.
ABSTRACT Opportunistic sampling of ticks from animals during veterinary treatment offers important insights about wildlife exposure to pathogens. Here, we report pathogens and other tick‐borne organisms detected in ticks sampled from 10 animal species in and near Laikipia County, Kenya, in 2014–2016.

Phenology and habitat associations of the invasive Asian longhorned tick from Ohio, USA

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 38, Issue 3, Page 314-324, September 2024.
Asian longhorned tick (ALT) nymphs emerged in June, followed by adults, and concluded with larvae in fall. Potential differences in phenology were identified between Ohio and Eastern Coast US states. ALTs were detected in all habitat types including grassland, forest and edge, but not on wildlife hosts, including small‐ and medium‐sized mammals and ...

Detecção de anticorpos para Anaplasma sp. em pequenos ruminantes no semi-árido do estado de Pernambuco, Brasil Detection of antibodies against Anaplasma sp. in small ruminants from the semi-arid region against Pernambuco State, Brazil

Molecular Detection of Anaplasma bovis in Cattle from Central Part of Iran [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Anaplasma bovis is a leukocytotropic agent of bovine anaplasmosis and there is no available information about molecular study on this agent in cattle of Iran. In this study a total 150 cattle blood samples were collected from central part of Iran.

Bovine abortion associated with Anaplasma marginale.

open access: yesCanadian journal of comparative medicine : Revue canadienne de medecine comparee, 1978
During the period from June 1974 to June 1975, five bovine fetuses between seven to nine months old were received for necropsy from four different counties of the S. Paulo State, Brazil. All of them were from brucellosis-free herds. Necropsy revealed slight liver enlargement generally accompanied by capsular petechial hemorrhages.

Evaluation of haematological parameters in haemolytic anaemia caused by tick‐borne pathogens in grazing cattle

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 3, May 2024.
In grazing Korean indigenous cattle, haemolytic anaemia caused by Theileria orientalis and Anaplasma phagocytophilum has been observed. Reticulocytosis, a marker of regeneration, was quantitatively expressed with an increase in indirect bilirubin and a decrease in haptoglobin. In addition, indirect bilirubin, L‐lactate and reticulocytes were correlated

Phylogeographic analysis reveals association of tick-borne pathogen, Anaplasma marginale, MSP1a sequences with ecological traits affecting tick vector performance

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2009
Background The tick-borne pathogen Anaplasma marginale, which is endemic worldwide, is the type species of the genus Anaplasma (Rickettsiales: Anaplasmataceae). Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus is the most important tick vector of A.

tRNA signatures reveal polyphyletic origins of streamlined SAR11 genomes among the alphaproteobacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Phylogenomic analyses are subject to bias from compositional convergence and noise from horizontal gene transfer (HGT). Compositional convergence is a likely cause of controversy regarding phylogeny of the SAR11 group of Alphaproteobacteria that have ...
