An Anaplasma centrale DNA probe that differentiates between Anaplasma ovis and Anaplasma marginale DNA

Veterinary Microbiology, 1991
An Anaplasma centrale genomic library was constructed in pUC13. Two clones pAC5 and pAC137 hybridising to A. centrale and A. marginale DNA were isolated from this library. One of these, pAC5, also hybridised to DNA from A. ovis. The total insert of pAC5 was subcloned into pBR322. This subclone, pAC5-12, could detect 1 ng A.

Development of a recombinant Anaplasma marginale DNA probe

Veterinary Microbiology, 1990
An Anaplasma marginale DNA probe has been developed by using an improved method for the isolation of genomic DNA. Purified genomic A. marginale DNA from the St. Croix isolate was partially digested with Sau 3A1 into fragments (greater than or equal to 5.0 kb). The restriction fragments were cloned using standard techniques in the pBR322 vector and used

Evaluation of jackrabbits as nonruminant hosts for Anaplasma marginale

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1985
SUMMARY Two black-tailed jackrabbits (Lepus californicus), 1 splenectomized and 1 intact, were inoculated with 0.2 ml of a 1:5 dilution of a Florida Anaplasma marginale stabilate. Five months later, both hares were inoculated with 1 ml of whole blood from a calf with acute anaplasmosis. Neither hare developed any signs of clinical anaplasmosis.

Ultrastructure of Anaplasma marginale After Freeze-Fracture

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1975
SUMMARY Stained thin sections and freeze-fractured replicas of Anaplasma marginale-infected bovine erythrocytes were examined by electron microscopy. Freeze-fracture replication not only verified basic Anaplasma ultrastructure, but also allowed visualization of structures not previously reported. Because of the partial 3-dimensional views obtained with

Kinetics of the Antibody Response to Anaplasma Marginale Infection

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1966
A pattern of sequential synthesis of particular molecular species of immunoglobulins has been described in the response of several animal species to nonviable antigens such as proteins, polysaccharides, and inactivated bacteria. With few exceptions early, exclusive 7M globulin antibody synthesis is augmented or replaced by 7G antibody after periods ...

Recrudescence of Anaplasma marginale Induced by Immunosuppression with Cyclophosphamide

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1981
SUMMARY Eight doses of cyclophosphamide (5 mg/kg), at 2-day intervals between doses, were administered iv to Anaplasma-carrier splenectomized calves. Significant decreases in serum immunoglobulins, diminished complement-fixing antibody response, and transitory leukopenia were associated with the treatment.

Identification of immunodominant polypeptides common between Anaplasma centrale and Anaplasma marginale

Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1991
High titered antibody from rabbits immunized with Anaplasma centrale or from cattle recovered from A. centrale infection bound predominantly to several 33-36 kDa polypeptides present in both A. centrale and the Israel-NT isolate of Anaplasma marginale. High titered bovine antibody against the Israel-NT isolate of A. marginale also reacted predominantly

Antigenic variation in Anaplasma marginale

Trends in Parasitology, 2001
Many parasitic organisms use antigenic variability to evade specific immune responses of the host. Antigenic diversity and genotypic differences between parasite clones, antigenic variation and phenotypic variation within a single clone are the most prominent mechanisms that have evolved during evolution.

Evaluation of the transmission of Anaplasma marginale by Amblyomma tonelliae

Veterinary Parasitology
This study aimed to evaluate A. marginale transstadial (TST) and transovarial transmission (TOT) by Amblyomma tonelliae through vector competence assays and analysis of natural infection in free-living ticks. This three-host tick species was chosen as model because it is a usual parasite of cattle in all their parasitic stages, making them potential ...
