Kant’s Four Political Conditions
In Kant’s “Doctrine of Right” there is a philosophical and interpretive puzzle surrounding the translation of a key concept: Gewalt. Should we translate it as “force,” “power,” or “violence”?

Hierarchy and Anarchy in Quark Mass Matrices, or Can Hierarchy Tolerate Anarchy? [PDF]
The consequences of adding random perturbations (anarchy) to a baseline hierarchical model of quark masses and mixings are explored. Even small perturbations of the order of 5% of the smallest non-zero element can already give deviations significantly ...

L’anarchie dans la philosophie politique : Réflexions anarchistes sur la typologie traditionnelle des régimes politiques [PDF]
According to the tradition, only three pure regimes — monarchy, aristocracy and democracy — are said to be capable under certain conditions of ensuring the “common good”.

Multiagent Maximum Coverage Problems: The Trade-off Between Anarchy and Stability
The price of anarchy and price of stability are three well-studied performance metrics that seek to characterize the inefficiency of equilibria in distributed systems.

Suppressing flavor anarchy [PDF]
We present a new mechanism, which does not require any flavor symmetry, to explain the small Yukawa couplings and CKM mixing angles. The Yukawa matrices are assumed to be random at short distances and the hierarchical structure is generated in the infrared by renormalization group flow.

Insecure Property Rights and Conflicts: How to Solve Them?

Abstract String theory models generically predict the existence of multiple axion-like particle (ALP) fields, yet the majority of both theoretical and experimental works have assumed only one ALP. In this paper, we discuss the phenomenology of systems with multiple ALPs that can undergo oscillations akin to neutrino oscillations ...

Selfish Jobs with Favorite Machines: Price of Anarchy vs Strong Price of Anarchy
We consider the well-studied game-theoretic version of machine scheduling in which jobs correspond to self-interested users and machines correspond to resources.

“It Is a Nomos Very Different from the Law”: on Anarchy and the Law
The relationship between anarchy and the law is, to say the least, an uncomfortable one. The so-called ‘classical’ anarchist position – in all its heterogeneous tendencies – is, usually, characterised by a total opposition against the law.
