Billroth II With Braun Anastomosis Versus Roux‐En‐Y Reconstruction Following Distal Gastrectomy: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
The efficacy of Billroth II with Braun (BIIB) anastomosis in laparoscopic distal gastrectomy remains uncertain. We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta‐analysis comparing BIIB with Roux en Y (RY) for distal laparoscopic gastrectomy. ABSTRACT Introduction The efficacy of Billroth II with Braun (BIIB) anastomosis in laparoscopic distal ...

Is AMP‐activated protein kinase activation a central mechanism of cardio‐metabolic outcomes after metabolic and bariatric surgery?

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is the most effective treatment for severe obesity. It usually results in spectacular weight loss, associated with improvements of obesity‐associated comorbidities. The mechanisms underlying these benefits are not fully understood but could involve a postoperative activation of the enzyme 5′ AMP‐activated ...

Diagnosis and treatment of gastric abscess by endoscopic ultrasound: A mini‐review of the preliminary application

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
Abstract Gastric abscess is a rare condition caused by gastric barrier damage. It is easily misdiagnosed in clinical practice as a cancer recurrence or submucosal tumor, especially after surgery or endoscopic submucosal dissection. With a relatively high mortality rate, the cause and clinical characteristics of gastric abscesses are obscure.

Efficacy and Safety of a 6‐Month Placement of a Fully Covered Self‐Expanding Metal Stent for Refractory or Recurrent Hepaticojejunostomy Anastomotic Stricture via Balloon Enteroscopy‐Assisted Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Balloon enteroscopy‐assisted endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (BE‐assisted ERCP) is performed for hepaticojejunostomy anastomotic stricture (HJAS) after biliary‐enteric anastomosis. Although endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD) and plastic stent (PS) placement are commonly performed, they result in high recurrence rates ...

The incidence of the dumping syndrome following gastrojejunostomy with Roux-en-y anastomosis [PDF]

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1982
Summary A clinical study was undertaken to determine the incidence of the dumping syndrome following partial gastrectomy and Roux-en-y gastrojejunostomy. Twenty-three patients were scored according to a clinical diagnostic index. There were no dumpers identified. A theoretical explanation for these findings is offered.

Adverse Events of Single Balloon Enteroscopy‐assisted Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography in the Elderly: A Propensity Score Matching Analysis

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Sedation for conventional endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has been reported to be safe even for elderly patients. However, the safety of sedation for balloon enteroscopy‐assisted ERCP (BE‐ERCP) has not been well‐studied in the elderly.

Fifteen years of clinical liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Liver transplantation in humans was first attempted more than 15 yr ago. The 1-yr survival has slowly improved until it has now reached about 50%. In our experience, 46 patients have lived for at least 1 yr, with the longest survival being 9 yr. The high

A Novel Endoscopic Strategy for Addressing Complex Gastrointestinal Defects via the X‐Tack System: A Case Series With Videos

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The management of complex gastrointestinal defects (CGDs), such as fistulas, leaks, and anastomotic dehiscence, remains challenging. Over‐the‐scope suturing (OTSS) systems provide effective closure, but their application is limited to specific anatomical sites.

Gastrojejunal Anastomosis Complications and Their Management after Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Obesity, 2015
Background. Complications at the gastrojejunal anastomosis after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) are challenging in terms of diagnosis, therapy, and prevention. This study aims at identifying these complications and discussing their management.Methods.

The Usefulness of Short‐Type Single Balloon Enteroscope for Successful Pancreato‐Biliary Cannulation During Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography in Patients With Roux‐en‐Y Gastrectomy: A Comparative Study With Short‐Type Double‐balloon Enteroscope

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives The retroflex position is crucial for the success of pancreato‐biliary cannulation in patients with Roux‐en‐Y gastrectomy (RYG). We aimed to investigate the factors associated with forming the retroflex position in patients with RYG, including short‐type single‐balloon enteroscope (sSBE) and short‐type double‐balloon enteroscope ...
