The intestine as a diagnostic character in identifying certain clupeoids (Engraulididae, Clupeidae, Dussumieriidae) and as a morphometric character for comparing anchoveta (Centengraulis mysticetus) populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1958
ENGLISH: The several species of clupeoid fishes used as baitfish in the Eastern Pacific tuna fishery are, in some cases, sufficiently similar to make identification difficult.

Improved Laser Performance of Carbon‐Bridged Oligo(p‐phenylenevinylene)s Through σ‐π Conjugation with Silyl Groups

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 11, April 14, 2025.
Shorter blue‐emitting carbon‐bridged oligo(p‐phenylenevinylene)s (COPVm, m = 1,2) encounter challenges with photostability and high lasing thresholds. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of σ‐π conjugation to improve these properties, through functionalization of COPV2 with terminal silyl group (COPV2–Si1 and COPV2–Si2).

Unexpectedly high variability in determining tumour extent in prostatic biopsies: implications for active surveillance

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 86, Issue 4, Page 627-639, March 2025.
Cancer infiltrates in prostate biopsies are reported in various ways, commonly in percentages or mm, which was confirmed in a survey of genitourinary pathologists. Further, 10 typical cases mirrored this variability in practice. A greater variability was seen for percentages in reporting prostate cancer extent.
