Crassulacean acid metabolism in the Gesneriaceae [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
The occurrence of the Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) was studied in four epiphytic species of the Gesneriaceae: two neotropical species, Codonanthe crassifolia and Columnea linearis, and two paleotropical species, Aoschynanthus pulcher and ...

Cardiomyopathy-Related Mutations in Cardiac Troponin C, L29Q and G159D, Have Divergent Effects on Rat Cardiac Myofiber Contractile Dynamics

open access: yesBiochemistry Research International, 2012
Previous studies of cardiomyopathy-related mutations in cardiac troponin C (cTnC)—L29Q and G159D—have shown diverse findings. The link between such mutant effects and their divergent impact on cardiac phenotypes has remained elusive due to lack of ...

A preliminary report of amphibian mortality patterns on railways

open access: yesActa Herpetologica, 2014
In contrast to road mortality, little is known about amphibian railroad mortality. The aim of this study was to quantify amphibian mortality along a railway line as well as to investigate the relationship between the availability of breeding sites in the

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

Dynamics of cardiac re-entry in micro-CT and serial histological sections based models of mammalian hearts [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Cardiac re-entry regime of self-organised abnormal synchronisation underlie dangerous arrhythmias and fatal fibrillation. Recent advances in the theory of dissipative vortices, experimental studies, and anatomically realistic computer simulations, elucidated the role of cardiac re-entry interaction with fine anatomical features in the heart, and ...

Distinct dysregulated pathways in sporadic and Lynch syndrome‐associated colorectal cancer offer insights for targeted treatment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 1006-1028, April 2025.
This study explores the distinct molecular mechanisms underlying Lynch syndrome‐associated and sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). By highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting the PI3K‐Akt pathway in Lynch syndrome‐associated CRC and the Wnt pathway in sporadic CRC, the findings open avenues for personalised treatment strategies, aiming to ...

Descriptive anatomy of trachea in the tufted capuchin monkey (Sapajus apella)

open access: yesBiotemas, 2013
The descriptive study of wild animals’ anatomy enjoys an undeniable importance nowadays. Cerrado constitutes a complex biome which is home to a wide variety of species, among them the tufted capuchin monkey (Sapajus apella); four specimens were used ...

Immunoregulatory mechanisms of the arachidonic acid pathway in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 927-951, April 2025.
The central role of the arachidonic acid (AA) pathway in anticancer immunity. Enzymes and metabolites of the AA pathway can play both immunosuppressive and immunostimulatory roles in the tumor microenvironment. Therefore, their tailored targeting could be beneficial as a standalone therapy or in combination with current cancer immunotherapy.

Five Cases of Dental Anomalies Attributable to Congenital Syphilis from Early 20th Century American Anatomical Collections

open access: yesDental Anthropology, 2017
Specific dental abnormalities are considered pathognomonic of congenital syphilis (CS); however, European physicians recognized their variation during the late 19th to mid 20th centuries.
