Constraining the Cratering Chronology of Vesta

open access: yes, 2014
Vesta has a complex cratering history, with ancient terrains as well as recent large impacts that have led to regional resurfacing. Crater counts can help constrain the relative ages of different units on Vesta's surface, but converting those crater ...

Hypomethylating agents increase L1 retroelement expression without inducing novel insertions in myeloid malignancies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigated whether hypomethylating agents (HMAs) used in myeloid malignancies induce somatic retrotransposition. Our findings indicate that HMA treatment increases L1‐encoded protein expression but does not lead to detectable de novo retrotransposition events in either patient samples or cell lines.

From Nature to Engineering: Mortar Volume and Interfacial Mechanics in Bioinspired Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural armors like nacre, this study explores how varying the volume fraction of the soft mortar layer impacts the interfacial strength and toughness of bioinspired ceramics. Experimental and computational analysis reveals that higher mortar volumes increase energy dissipation but reduce interfacial stiffness, offering insights for ...
