Optical doughnut for optical tweezers

Optics Letters, 2003
We describe novel optical doughnuts for optical tweezers. With new phase functions, the proposed doughnut beams have dark cores in specified shapes. The technique can offer a simple method for creating a variety of beam shapes to match the trapped objects.

Optically tunable optical filter

Applied Optics, 1995
We experimentally demonstrate an optically tunable optical filter that uses photorefractive barium titanate. With our filter we implement a spectrum analyzer at 632.8 nm with a resolution of 1.2 nm. We simulate a wavelength-division multiplexing system by separating two semiconductor laser diodes, at 1560 nm and 1578 nm, with the same filter.

Optical disks in optical computing

COMPCON Spring '91 Digest of Papers, 2002
Two optical-disk based architectures are described. The first is an optical implementation of the radial basis function approach for handwritten character recognition. The second system is an optoelectronic neural network implementation with electronic neurons, electronic synapses, and optical-disk-based weight storage.
