The Predominant Role of Musical Valence Over Arousal in Pain Modulation: A Psychophysiological Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Psychology, Volume 61, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Several studies have demonstrated the potential capacity of music to induce emotions and manage pain. However, the psychophysiological mechanisms underlying the effects of emotional dimensions (valence and arousal) induced by music on the modulation of pain perception remain poorly understood.

The Gut Microbiota as a Mediator in the Relationship Between Dietary Patterns and Depression

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
Healthy dietary patterns are associated with gut microbial genera linked to lower depressive symptoms. In 644 older adults from the PREDIMED‐Plus cohort, 16S rRNA sequencing and dietary scoring revealed that taxa associated with a better diet quality were also more abundant in individuals with fewer depressive symptoms.

Guiding AlphaFold predictions with experimental knowledge to inform dynamics and interactions with VAIRO

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Structural predictions have reached unprecedented accuracy. They leverage sequence‐specific data to capture all potential interactions a sequence has evolved to fulfill. AlphaFold derives information from three sources: learned parameters capturing intrinsic amino acid secondary structure and environment propensity; models of related proteins ...

Active Transport of Carbon to Demersal Fish Communities in Shelf‐Slope‐Abyssal Systems of the North Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 40, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The biological carbon pump sequesters carbon through passive fluxes of biologically derived carbon, and by active vertical movement of marine organisms. Trophic coupling between pelagic and benthic communities increases the efficiency of the biological carbon pump as less carbon is lost to remineralization.

Exploring the double deficit hypothesis in Spanish schoolchildren using latent profile analysis

open access: yesJournal of Research in Reading, Volume 49, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Background Dyslexia is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by deficits in phonological awareness (PA). According to the Double Deficit Hypothesis (DDH), Rapid Automatic Naming (RAN) deficit is another potential independent cause. However, the evidence from studies with languages that vary in orthographic consistency is mixed.
