Chemical nature of residual phosphorus in Andisols

open access: yesGeoderma, 2016
Sequential fractionation has been widely used to study the nature and dynamics of soil P. Residual P – the recalcitrant P fraction remaining after sequential extraction with alkali and acid reagents – often constitutes the majority of the soil P, yet its nature and bioavailability is poorly understood.

Model for Predicting the Hydraulic Conductivity of Frozen Soils Using the Soil Freezing Characteristic Curve

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Frost heave and thaw settlement driven by freeze‐thaw cycles in seasonally frozen soils of cold regions are strongly related to water migration. A key parameter controlling water migration in frozen soils is the hydraulic conductivity, which predominantly governs the movement of water under thermal and hydraulic gradients.

HUMEDAD CRÍTICA Y REPELENCIA AL AGUA EN ANDISOLES BAJO COBERTURA DE Cupressus lusitanica y Quercus humboldtii EN LA CUENCA DE LA QUEBRADA PIEDRAS BLANCAS (MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA) CRITICAL MOISTURE AND WATER REPELLENCY ON ANDISOLS UNDER Cupressus lusitanica AND Quercus humboldtii COVER IN THE PIEDRAS BLANCAS WATERSHED ( MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA )

Afterlife effects of invasive wasp nests on ecosystem functioning

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Legacy effects, defined as persistent ecological impacts after a species extirpation or cessation of activity, can significantly influence ecosystem structure and function. While extensively studied in plant invasions, legacy effects of invasive animals may differ and remain largely unexplored. We assessed the afterlife effects of subterranean

AI as a Catalyst for Cross‐Disciplinary Breakthroughs in Soil Carbon Sequestration Research

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 76, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
ABSTRACT AI models have been proposed for generating scientific hypotheses; thus, our aim was to test their ability to drive novel research in soil science. We used an AI multiagent platform to generate research ideas for (innovative) practices capable of increasing Mineral‐Associated Organic Carbon (MAOC) in soils. We assigned the AI multiagent system

Evaluating the character and preservation of DNA within allophane clusters in buried soils on Holocene tephras, northern New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Clay minerals possess sorptive capacities for organic and inorganic matter, including DNA (Lorenz and Wackernagel, 1994), and hence reduce the utilization and degradation of organic matter or DNA by microorganisms. Buried allophane-rich soils on tephras (

Aggregate and soil organic carbon dynamics in South Chilean Andisols [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2005
Extreme sensitivity of soil organic carbon (SOC) to climate and land use change warrants further research in different terrestrial ecosystems. The aim of this study was to investigate the link between aggregate and SOC dynamics in a chronosequence of ...

The changes of soil physical and chemical properties of Andisols as affected by drying and rewetting processes

open access: yesJournal of Degraded and Mining Lands Management, 2015
Soils from a toposequence in northern slope of Mt. Kawi, Malang were sampled to study the effect of amorphous content on the irreversible drying properties of the soils. Water, clay, organic-C, and available P contents were measured at field capacity (KL)
