Quantification of Elegant Motions for Receptionist Android Robot

Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2017
To improve the general image of robots, in this study we describe a method of achieving “elegant motions based on women’s sense” in an android robot. There have been many books published in Japan containing advice for women on how to have elegant manners.

Physical computing and android in robotics

2013 2nd Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2013
This paper represents research in the area of Physical computing and Robotics with practical realization of remote controlled vehicle. The vehicle is controlled by programmable microcontroller, such as the Arduino or FEZ Mini, running on the Microsoft.NET Micro Framework as a spine and the Android acting as a brain. The connection between a spine and a

Gaze motion planning for android robot

Proceedings of the 6th international conference on Human-robot interaction, 2011
Androids are potentially required to show human-like behavior, because their appearance resembles humans' physical features. Therefore, we propose a gaze motion planning method. Within this method, we control the convergence of eyes and the ratio of eye angle to head angle, which leads to a more precise estimation of gaze direction.

Future Roles for Android Robots

Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction, 2015
The future role of android robots is discussed. Survey results reveal that people are capable of viewing androids as companions and will accept androids operating in various roles within human society; however, people are uncomfortable with androids operating in roles in which they are able to persuade humans to do something, affect humans' minds, or ...

Girls Building Androids and Robots

2018
There is still a considerable degree of catching up to do in regards to fostering gender equality within areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Children's leading medium, television, could offer role models of girls with competence in STEM areas, but unfortunately television programs often miss this chance.

Android mobile application for controlling Arexx robots

2015 IEEE 13th International Symposium on Intelligent Systems and Informatics (SISY), 2015
The ASURO project is presented, the used hardware devices and software development tools, methodologies and technologies are described. The aim of the project is to create algorithms and software modules for controlling Arexx robots. Two robot types are considered, the ARX-03 ASURO and the AAR-04 ASURINO robot.

Android-based speech processing for eldercare robotics

Proceedings of the companion publication of the 2013 international conference on Intelligent user interfaces companion, 2013
A growing elderly population has created a need for innovative eldercare technologies. The use of a home robot to assist with daily tasks is one such example. In this paper we describe an interface for human-robot interaction, which uses built-in speech recognition in Android phones to control a mobile robot.

Body Ownership Transfer to Teleoperated Android Robot

2012
Teleoperators of android robots occasionally feel as if the robotic bodies are extensions of their own. When others touch the teleoperated android, even without tactile feedback, some operators feel as if they themselves have been touched. In the past, a similar phenomenon named "Rubber Hand Illusion" has been studied for its reflection of a three-way ...

Developing an Interactive Gaze Algorithm for Android Robots

2016
We implemented a gaze algorithm for interacting with multiple observers as a precursor to a multi-party conversation system. By acknowledging multiple participants in a natural manner, we seek to set the stage for smoother and more effective human-robot conversations featuring proper turn-taking using attention shifts.
