Differentiating reactive and neoplastic gamma‐delta (γδ) T‐cell expansions in the peripheral blood and bone marrow

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract The clinical and immunophenotypic attributes of reactive γδ T‐cell expansions are less well characterized than their malignant counterparts, which can pose diagnostic challenges. This study aims to investigate the characteristics and long‐term clinical outcomes of reactive γδ T‐cell expansions.

Computer Aided Detection of Anemia-like Pallor [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Paleness or pallor is a manifestation of blood loss or low hemoglobin concentrations in the human blood that can be caused by pathologies such as anemia. This work presents the first automated screening system that utilizes pallor site images, segments, and extracts color and intensity-based features for multi-class classification of patients with high

Reversibility of Red blood Cell deformation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The ability of cells to undergo reversible shape changes is often crucial to their survival. For Red Blood Cells (RBCs), irreversible alteration of the cell shape and flexibility often causes anemia. Here we show theoretically that RBCs may react irreversibly to mechanical perturbations because of tensile stress in their cytoskeleton.

A PROSPECTIVE STUDY ON RISK FACTORS OF IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA IN PREGNANT WOMEN AND THEIR MANAGEMENT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Objective: Iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy leads to preterm birth, low birth weight and increases the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and the reason for the incidence of PPH is higher in India compared with the rest of the world. In this

Iron Deficiency Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesActa Haematologica, 2019
Iron deficiency anemia is a common complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD patients suffer from both absolute and functional iron deficiency. Absolute iron deficiency is defined by severely reduced or absent iron stores, while functional iron ...

Prescription of guideline‐directed medical therapy in heart failure: impact on mortality and readmission

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Routine data analysis showing a better outcome regarding mortality and readmission in HF patients when being prescribed the current four‐drug treatment (vs. the outdated two‐drug therapy) 91–365 days after index hospital stay. Abstract Aims The 2021 European heart failure (HF) guidelines recommend the combination of four drugs as a standard therapy ...

Semi-Blind and l1 Robust System Identification for Anemia Management [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, chronic kidney disease (CKD) require a drug management system that ensures a stable and robust output of the patient's condition in response to drug dosage. In the case of CKD, the patients suffer from the deficiency of red blood cell count and external human recombinant erythropoietin (EPO) is

Impact of Inflammation on Ferritin, Hepcidin and the Management of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesNutrients, 2018
Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a major problem in chronic kidney disease (CKD), causing increased mortality. Ferritin stores iron, representing iron status. Hepcidin binds to ferroportin, thereby inhibiting iron absorption/efflux.
