Thermographic skin temperature measurement compared with cold sensation in predicting the efficacy and distribution of epidural anesthesia

open access: yesJournal of clinical monitoring and computing, 2017
Due to the high rates of epidural failure (3–32%), novel techniques are required to objectively assess the successfulness of an epidural block. In this study we therefore investigated whether thermographic temperature measurements have a higher ...

Battery‐Free Dual‐Channel Wireless Neurostimulator Using Passive Circuitry for Neuropathic Pain Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A compact, wireless neural stimulator featuring a novel tapping inductor enables selective and independent stimulation of the motor cortex in rats via a single receiver coil. This minimally invasive system effectively reduces neuropathic pain through targeted cortical activation, offering a new avenue for bioelectronic pain therapies and advancing ...

The effect of epidural and general anesthesia on newborn rectal temperature at elective cesarean section

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2009
Both epidural and general anesthesia can impair thermoregulatory mechanisms during surgery. However, there is lack of information about the effects of different methods of anesthesia on newborn temperature.

Spinal epidural hematoma related to an epidural catheter in a cardiac surgery patient -A case report- [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2011
The addition of thoracic epidural anesthesia to general anesthesia during cardiac surgery may have a beneficial effect on clinical outcome. However, epidural catheter insertion in a patient anticoagulated with heparin may increase the risk of epidural ...

Directive Versus Supportive Approaches Used by Midwives When Providing Care During the Second Stage of Labor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction: Although the risks associated with using sustained and forceful maternal bearing‐down efforts during the second stage of labor have been well documented, most women who give birth in the United States bear down in response to direction from

Transient neurologic symptoms following spinal anesthesia with isobaric mepivacaine: A decade of experience at Toronto Western Hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Transient neurologic symptoms (TNSs) can be distressing for patients and providers following uneventful spinal anesthesia. Spinal mepivacaine may be less commonly associated with TNS than lidocaine; however, reported rates of TNS with ...

Thermal Processing Creates Water‐Stable PEDOT:PSS Films for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Instead of using chemical cross–linkers, it is shown that PEDOT:PSS thin films for bioelectronics become water‐stable after a simple heat treatment. The heat treatment is compatible with a range of rigid and elastomeric substrates and films are stable in vivo for >20 days.

Real-time ultrasound-guided epidural anesthesia for cesarean section in a parturient with achondroplasia

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2021
Achondroplasia is a type of disproportionate dwarfism with short limbs and a normal-sized torso. This condition results in a potential spinal abnormality and a difficult airway may increase the anesthetic risk, not only in neuraxial anesthesia, but also ...

Pharmacological Microglial Inhibition Remodels the Scar Microenvironment to Support Reticulospinal Circuit Reconstruction After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes pharmacological microglial inhibition as a therapeutic strategy, demonstrating its capacity to remodel the lesion microenvironment through significant reduction of extracellular matrix deposition. This permissive environmental transformation facilitates robust regeneration of the reticulospinal tract, and reconstructs functional ...
