Real-time ultrasound-guided epidural anesthesia for cesarean section in a parturient with achondroplasia

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2021
Achondroplasia is a type of disproportionate dwarfism with short limbs and a normal-sized torso. This condition results in a potential spinal abnormality and a difficult airway may increase the anesthetic risk, not only in neuraxial anesthesia, but also ...

Increasing Robustness of the Anesthesia Process from Difference Patient's Delay Using a State-Space Model Predictive Controller [PDF]

open access: yesProcedia Engineering 15 (2011) 928-932, 2013
The process of anesthesia is nonlinear with time delay and also there are some constraints which have to be considered in calculating administrative drug dosage. We present an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) observer to estimate drug concentration in the patient's body and use this estimation in a state-space based Model of Predictive Controller (MPC) for

The Effects of Prenatal Patient Education Regarding Epidural Anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
This project is important because there is a lack of education for prenatal women regarding epidural anesthesia which causes misunderstanding, confusion, a deficit of knowledge, and a lack of support. The purpose of this project is to analyze and suggest

The effect of epidural and general anesthesia on newborn rectal temperature at elective cesarean section

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2009
Both epidural and general anesthesia can impair thermoregulatory mechanisms during surgery. However, there is lack of information about the effects of different methods of anesthesia on newborn temperature.

Case Report: Hemorrhage into an Occult Spinal Ependymoma after Epidural Anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Epidural anesthesia is a procedure which is well tolerated and has a low incidence of adverse events. In performing caesarean sections, regional anesthesia (spinal or epidural) is the preferred modality for anesthetic delivery.

Thermal Processing Creates Water‐Stable PEDOT:PSS Films for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Instead of using chemical cross–linkers, it is shown that PEDOT:PSS thin films for bioelectronics become water‐stable after a simple heat treatment. The heat treatment is compatible with a range of rigid and elastomeric substrates and films are stable in vivo for >20 days.

Comparative study for better adjuvant with ropivacaine in epidural anesthesia

open access: yesAnesthesia Essays and Researches, 2016
Background: Better adjuvants for epidural analgesia are still evolving. Dexmedetomidine that is alpha-2 agonist can be used as an adjuvant in epidural analgesia and anesthesia.

Regional anesthesia for orthopedic procedures: What orthopedic surgeons need to know

open access: yesWorld Journal of Orthopaedics, 2022
Regional anesthesia is an integral component of successful orthopedic surgery. Neuraxial anesthesia is commonly used for surgical anesthesia while peripheral nerve blocks are often used for postoperative analgesia.

Tissue Classification During Needle Insertion Using Self-Supervised Contrastive Learning and Optical Coherence Tomography [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Needle positioning is essential for various medical applications such as epidural anaesthesia. Physicians rely on their instincts while navigating the needle in epidural spaces. Thereby, identifying the tissue structures may be helpful to the physician as they can provide additional feedback in the needle insertion process.

Anatomy of Soft Tissues of the Spinal Canal [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Background and Objectives. Important issues regarding the spread of solutions in the epidural space and the anatomy of the site of action of spinal and epidural injections are unresolved.
