Repeated Cross-sectional Surveys of Burnout, Distress, and Depression among Anesthesiology Residents and First-year Graduates.

open access: yesAnesthesiology, 2019
WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THIS TOPIC Burnout has been identified in approximately 50% of residents and practicing physicians WHAT THIS ARTICLE TELLS US THAT IS NEW: Based on survey data from 2013 to 2016, the prevalence of burnout, distress, and ...

Diversity, equity, and inclusion in anesthesiology

open access: yesInternational Anesthesiology Clinics, 2021
Disparities in population health are driven by a dynamic set of factors, known as social determinants of health. Although individualsmay not have a direct influence over the upstream social factors (poverty, homelessness, racism) that drive disparities ...

Anesthesiology and cognitive impairment: a narrative review of current clinical literature

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2019
BackgroundThe impact of general anesthesia on cognitive impairment is controversial and complex. A large body of evidence supports the association between exposure to surgery under general anesthesia and development of delayed neurocognitive recovery in ...

Effects of Pharmacologic and Nonpharmacologic Interventions for the Management of Sleep Problems in People With Fibromyalgia: Systematic Review and Network Meta‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue. Almost everyone with fibromyalgia has sleep problems. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of current interventions for the management of fibromyalgia‐related sleep problems.

Targeting RAGE with Nanobodies for Molecular Imaging of Cancers and Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
RAGE‐specific nanobodies were isolated via phage display and characterized by ELISA, cell ELISA, and SPR. In vivo imaging in renal carcinoma and Alzheimer's disease mouse models demonstrated that NbF8, the highest‐affinity clone, selectively targeted RAGE‐overexpressing tumors and brain tissues, highlighting its potential as a molecular imaging agent ...

The Effect of Repeated Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (R-DOPS) Assessment Method on the Clinical Skills of Anesthesiology Residents

open access: yesAnesthesiology and Pain Medicine, 2021
Background The ultimate result of patient care is one of the most important outcomes in medical education. Several methods, including the direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS), have been proposed to assess professional competencies in clinical ...

Porous Decellularized Nerve Grafts Facilitate Recellularization and Nerve Regeneration in a Rat Model of Critical Long‐Gap Peripheral Nerve Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A decellularized nerve graft (DNG) is modified to generate a porous DNG (PDNG). The PDNG is used to repair a 30‐mm peripheral nerve injury (PNI) defect, and is compared with isograft, serving as the standard, and DNG, a widely used alternative. The result shows that PDNG facilitated nerve regeneration in long‐gap PNI, evidenced by better‐aligned axonal

An Introduction to Causal Diagrams for Anesthesiology Research

open access: yesAnesthesiology, 2020
Making good decisions in the era of Big Data requires a sophisticated approach to causality. We are acutely aware that association ≠ causation, yet untangling the two remains one of our greatest challenges.

Loss of NR2F6 Protects from Salmonella Typhimurium Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Loss of nuclear receptor NR2F6 reduces tissue‐resident macrophage populations. Nr2f6‐deficient mice are protected from weight loss and bacterial load during infection with Salmonella Typhimurium. Pro‐inflammatory cytokines and iron levels are altered in infected Nr2f6‐deficient mice.
