This study indicated, for the first time, that (±) linalool and its enantiomer, (R)‐(‐) linalool protected PC12 cells against injury induced by oxygen and glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) via the mitigation of oxidative stress and the downregulation of Bax/Bcl‐2, caspase‐3 and caspase‐9, resulting in decreased apoptotic cell death.

Contemporary management of pain in cirrhosis: Toward precision therapy for pain
Abstract Chronic pain is highly prevalent in patients with cirrhosis and is associated with poor health‐related quality of life and poor functional status. However, there is limited guidance on appropriate pain management in this population, and pharmacologic treatment can be harmful, leading to adverse outcomes, such as gastrointestinal bleeding ...

Abstract Hepatocellular adenomas (HCAs) are benign liver tumors associated with bleeding or malignant transformation. Data on the indication for surgery are scarce. We analyzed indications and outcome of patients operated for HCAs < 50 mm compared to HCAs ≥ 50 mm. Changes in final postoperative diagnosis were assessed.

Automated Detection of Rest Disruptions in Critically Ill Patients [PDF]
Sleep has been shown to be an indispensable and important component of patients recovery process. Nonetheless, sleep quality of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is often low, due to factors such as noise, pain, and frequent nursing care activities.

Offline reinforcement learning with uncertainty for treatment strategies in sepsis [PDF]
Guideline-based treatment for sepsis and septic shock is difficult because sepsis is a disparate range of life-threatening organ dysfunctions whose pathophysiology is not fully understood. Early intervention in sepsis is crucial for patient outcome, yet those interventions have adverse effects and are frequently overadministered.

Machine learning-based analysis of hyperspectral images for automated sepsis diagnosis [PDF]
Sepsis is a leading cause of mortality and critical illness worldwide. While robust biomarkers for early diagnosis are still missing, recent work indicates that hyperspectral imaging (HSI) has the potential to overcome this bottleneck by monitoring microcirculatory alterations.
