Use of a monoclonal antibody directed against the platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor in high-risk coronary angioplasty.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 1994
BACKGROUND Platelets are believed to play a part in the ischemic complications of coronary angioplasty, such as abrupt closure of the coronary vessel during or soon after the procedure.

A multiscale model of vascular function in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is caused by recurrent or unresolved pulmonary thromboemboli, leading to perfusion defects and increased arterial wave reflections. CTEPH treatment aims to reduce pulmonary arterial pressure and reestablish adequate lung perfusion, yet patients with distal lesions are inoperable by standard surgical

S-Nitrosoglutathione reduces asymptomatic embolization after carotid angioplasty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Background: The major complication of carotid angioplasty is embolic stroke, which may occur after balloon inflation and deflation or in the early postintervention period.

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty for failing native hemodialysis arteriovenous fistulas

open access: yesAl-Azhar Assiut Medical Journal, 2020
Background Stenosis and associated thrombosis is a continual complication of hemodialysis arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs). Early management of stenosis may avoid AVF occlusion and extend its use.

A thermodynamic framework for unified continuum models for the healing of damaged soft biological tissue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
When they are damaged or injured, soft biological tissues are able to self-repair and heal. Mechanics is critical during the healing process, as the damaged extracellular matrix (ECM) tends to be replaced with a new undamaged ECM supporting homeostatic stresses. Computational modeling has been commonly used to simulate the healing process.

Pulmonary Vein Balloon Angioplasty and Stenting for Left Superior and Inferior Pulmonary Vein Stenosis/Occlusion After Radiofrequency Ablation for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Case Rep
ABSTRACT Early detection and prompt intervention are essential for managing pulmonary vein stenosis and occlusion (PVS/O) following radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for atrial fibrillation (AF). This case report highlights the importance of considering PVS/O in patients with dyspnea and cough post‐RFA and underscores the effectiveness of balloon ...

Fractional Flow Reserve‐Guided Multivessel Angioplasty in Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2017
BACKGROUND In patients with ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the use of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to restore blood flow in an infarct‐related coronary artery improves outcomes.

Lumen Shape Reconstruction using a Soft Robotic Balloon Catheter and Electrical Impedance Tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Incorrectly sized balloon catheters can lead to increased post-surgical complications, yet even with preoperative imaging, correct selection remains a challenge. With limited feedback during surgery, it is difficult to verify correct deployment. We propose the use of integrated impedance measurements and Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) imaging to

ASCORE: an up-to-date cardiovascular risk score for hypertensive patients reflecting contemporary clinical practice developed using the (ASCOT-BPLA) trial data. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A number of risk scores already exist to predict cardiovascular (CV) events. However, scores developed with data collected some time ago might not accurately predict the CV risk of contemporary hypertensive patients that benefit from more modern ...

Acute myocardial infarction with normal electrocardiogram and biomarkers of cardiac injury: A case report

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
AMI with normal ECG and biomarkers of cardiac injury is exceedingly rare. The clinical manifestations of AMI were complex and varied, especially that the patients with atypical AMI were increasing in clinical practice. Caution should be exercised to exclude AMI in patients with chest pain and both normal ECG and biomarkers of cardiac injury.
