Cardiology Clinics, 1988
Laser technology clearly offers new approaches to the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The ability to transmit intense laser energy through optical fibers may allow precise ablation of pathologic cardiovascular tissues. This potential has stimulated extensive research on laser vaporization of atherosclerotic plaque, or laser angioplasty.

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 1989
The current status of the use of lasers in the treatment of vascular disease, including the mechanism of laser angioplasty, is reviewed. The current clinical experience with various laser systems is discussed. Potential modifications of laser devices to improve their clinical utility are examined.

Management of failed angioplasty with laser balloon angioplasty
SPIE Proceedings, 1990Laser balloon angioplasty (LBA) is a technique for improving the post angioplasty result by the radial diffusion of continuous wave Neodymium:YAG laser energy to the arterial wall during the final inflation of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).

AIMS In primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), stenting has been shown to reduce the need for repeat target lesion revascularisation (TLR) compared to balloon angioplasty alone, but did not result in a reduction of recurrent myocardial ...

Purpose To assess the extent of early recoil in patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) undergoing conventional tibial balloon angioplasty. Methods Our hypothesis was that early recoil, defined as lumen compromise >10%, is frequent and accounts for ...

Extracranial Angioplasty and Stenting
2009This chapter discusses angioplasty and stenting technique and patient management for extracranial stenosis of the carotid bifurcation well as less common indications including common carotid and subclavian artery origin stenosis and extracranial vertebral stenosis. Complication avoidance and management are covered.

The Mechanism of Transluminal Angioplasty
1982Normal coronary arteries in dogs, atherosclerotic human coronary arteries at autopsy, and rabbit iliac arteries with experimental atherosclerosis were subjected to angioplasty and studied histologically or by electron microscopy. The studies showed desquamation of endothelium, deposition of platelets in the area of angioplasty, and splitting of ...

Outcomes of Angioplasty vs Thrombolysis by Hospital Angioplasty Volume—Reply
JAMA, 2001concluded that pa-tients treated at hospitals that performed more than 16 pri-mary angioplasty procedures per year (93.5% of the proce-dures in the study) had lower in-hospital mortality rates withprimary angioplasty than with thrombolytic therapy.
