Coronary angioscopy evaluates the composition of the atherosclerotic plaque by direct examination of the arterial wall. The angioscope is fitted with a balloon which prevents assessment of the proximal segment of the vessels. The fibre optic system provides and excellent view of the mid and distal segments of the coronary arteries.

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1990To the Editor. —The technique of fluorescein angioscopy has been used by ophthalmologists to supplement ophthalmoscopy in the diagnosis of retinal diseases. 1,2 The usual technique consists of the intravenous injection of fluorescein sodium following placement of a cobalt blue filter over the illumination source of the indirect ophthalmoscope.
