An experimental angle of arrival estimation system

[1991] Conference Record of the Twenty-Fifth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems & Computers, 2002
The authors describe an experimental hardware system used to estimate the angles of arrival of multiple cochannel emitters. The system consists of a four-element phased array antenna and a personal computer housing four coherentized digital receivers.

Estimation of angles-of-arrival for wideband sources

ICASSP '84. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
High resolution direction of arrival estimation for multiple wideband sources is discussed in this paper. The proposed method involves two steps. Preliminary estimates of the angles are obtained via an eigendecomposition method such as MUSIC for several non-overlapping bands of frequency.

Stochastic optimization methods for angle of arrival estimation

2007 IEEE Sarnoff Symposium, 2007
The difficulty for accurate determination of the angles of arrival (AOA) of signals arises from the optimization of likelihood functions of high dimension. Usually, a gradient-based technique is employed to find the optimum of the function. However, this method requires heavy computational work and the differentiability of the likelihood function. This

On the security of Angle of Arrival estimation

2016 IEEE Conference on Communications and Network Security (CNS), 2016
Angle of Arrival (AoA) estimation has found its way to a wide range of applications. Much attention has been paid to study different techniques for AoA estimation and its applications for jamming suppression, however, security vulnerability issues of AoA estimation itself under hostile activity have not been paid the same attention.

Angle of arrival estimation of on-body channels

2nd European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP 2007), 2007
Angle of arrival (AoA) estimation has been performed on five on-body channels, namely belt-to-chest, belt-to-wrist, belt-to-ankle, belt-to-head and belt-to-back. The transmitter was always placed on the belt whilst the receiver was located on the points mentioned above. A quarter wavelength monopole and a switched beam array were used, respectively, as

Refractivity estimations from an angle-of-arrival spectrum

Chinese Physics B, 2011
This paper addresses the probability of atmospheric refractivity estimation by using field measurements at an array of radio receivers in terms of angle-of-arrival spectrum. Angle-of-arrival spectrum information is simulated by the ray optics model and refractivity is expressed in the presence of an ideal tri-linear profile.

Angle of Arrival Estimation for Non-Circular Signals

2006 IEEE Sarnoff Symposium, 2006
A new algorithm is introduced in this paper that estimates one dimension direction of arrivals utilizing coherent and noncoherent non-circular sources. Examples of such sources are binary shift keying (BPSK) and M-ary amplitude shift keying (MASK). This algorithm presents several advantages over the classical subspace algorithms such as Root MUSIC and ...

High-Resolution Techniques for Angle-of-Arrival Estimation

MILCOM 1986 - IEEE Military Communications Conference: Communications-Computers: Teamed for the 90's, 1986
The intent of this paper, in part, is to discuss the implementation of a sampled-aperture radar facility and to address two algorithms applicable to angle-of-arrival estimation in the presence of multipath: modified forward-backward linear prediction (MFBLP) and classical maximum liklihood (ML). In the MFBLP approach, the angle-of-arrival estimation is

Radar Angle-of-Arrival Estimation

2013
The paper focus on interferometer angle error and on the signal processing required for interferometry, but also introduce monopulse angle-of-arrival for comparison. This chapter, derive the basic equations for monopulse angle estimation and discuss the fundamentals of eigen-based superresolution techniques.

Multipath-aided location estimation using angles of arrival

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Angles of arrival (AOAs) of a signal transmitted by a mobile station (MS) are estimated at two or more base stations (BSs) by employing directive antennas or antenna arrays. In traditional location algorithms, the MS position is determined by solving for the intersecting points of at least two lines of position given by these angles and the known ...
