Relaxation at the Angle of Repose

We have investigated the distribution of avalanches which occur when the slope of a sandpile exceeds the metastable slope given by the angle of repose. In contradiction to recent models by Bak, Tang, and Wiesenfeld for the dynamics of granular systems, we do not observe power-law distributions. Geometric effect of angle of repose revisited

We report on a universal pattern observed in the collapse dynamics of a sand heap. Collapse dynamics of a three-dimensional sand heap were studied through experiments and numerical simulations. A phenomenological law that describes the shape of a collapsed sand heap was found, we call this the geometric constitutive law of friction.

Flow Rates and Repose Angles of Wet-Processed Granulations

The equation of McDougall and Evans was found not to apply to granulations. The functional relationships among volumetric powder flow rates, angles of repose, and particle size were demonstrated to exhibit maxima (rather than minima) in five common pharmaceutical granulations produced by wet processing.

Abstract The relation between angle of repose and angle of internal friction in a fragmented mass is discussed, and experiments with crushed rocks are reported. It is concluded that the angle of repose is not generally the angle of internal friction of the material in the pile, but of the same material in a more closely packed condition.
