Hearing in the eel (Anguilla anguilla)

Journal of Comparative Physiology A, 1989
The auditory sensitivity in the European eel (Anguilla anguilla) was measured using an acoustic tube producing sound stimuli with different ratios between sound pressure and particle motion. The upper audible frequency limit in the eel was about 300 Hz. At low frequencies the relevant stimulus parameter was particle motion, excluding involvement of the

cDNA cloning of eel (Anguilla anguilla) somatolactin

Gene, 1997
The nucleotide sequence of the cDNA coding for eel somatolactin (SL), a pituitary hormone belonging to the growth hormone (GH)/prolactin (PRL) family, has been determined. The full-length eel SL cDNA (1213 bp) encodes a protein of 229 amino acids (aa), with a putative signal peptide of 24 aa and a mature protein of 204 aa.

Glucocorticoid receptors in the euryhaline teleost Anguilla anguilla

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2000
To determine the importance of glucocorticoids in the salt water adaptation of European yellow eel we have evaluated the concentration, affinity and physical properties of glucocorticoid receptors (GR) in gill from both sea water- (SW) and freshwater-adapted (FW) animals.

Development of the swimbladder in the European eel (Anguilla anguilla)

Cell and Tissue Research, 2002
The swimbladder of the adult eel, Anguilla anguilla, with its bipolar countercurrent system, the rete mirabile, is a widely used model for swimbladder function, but very little is known about the development of this swimbladder. Our histological studies on the developing swimbladder revealed that during metamorphosis the swimbladder becomes present as ...

Coelioscopic Investigation in European Eels (Anguilla anguilla)

Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine, 2014
Abstract Coelioscopy is a surgical technique in which small incisions are made into the coelomic cavity through which specific instrumentation is inserted to evaluate the internal structures within. For this reason, coelioscopy must be considered a less-invasive surgical method than traditional abdominal surgery. This study was aimed at evaluating and

The choroid in the eye of the eel (Anguilla anguilla)

Experientia, 1984
By means of light and scanning electron microscopy evidence of the existence of a normally organized choroid in the eye of the eel,Anguilla anguilla, is presented.

Experimental Vibriosis in the Eel (Anguilla anguilla)

1980
Vibriosis is probably the most important disease of marine and, to a less extent, freshwater fishes. With an increase in fish aquaculture the disease has become a severe economic problem.
