Contribution of Orbital Angular Momentum to the Nucleon Spin

open access: yes, 2017
We have calculated the Orbital Angular Momentum of quarks and gluons in the nucleon. The calculations are carried out in the next to leading order utilizing the so-called valon model.

Angular distributions

open access: yesIl Nuovo Cimento, 1960
The theorem for distributions in the angles θ, ϕ is extended to the third Euler angle, ϕ, whereupon it becomes equivalent to the rotational invariance of the responsible interactions. An interpretation of half-angle terms in the general rate formula is given.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Angular momentum of a strongly focussed Gaussian beam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A circularly polarized rotationally symmetric paraxial laser beams carries hbar angular momentum per photon as spin. Focussing the beam with a rotationally symmetric lens cannot change this angular momentum flux, yet the focussed beam must have spin less

On the transformations generated by the electromagnetic spin and orbital angular momentum operators

open access: yes, 2014
We present a study of the properties of the transversal "spin angular momentum" and "orbital angular momentum" operators. We show that the "spin angular momentum" operators are generators of spatial translations which depend on helicity and frequency and

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Angular solution

open access: yesDisegnare con, 2012
A piece of architecture can be investigated in search of a geometrical model which explanes the rules of its nature and the way they become real in the act of building. Some topics often arise and the answers proposed by architects in various periods let

Ultra-compact radio sources: angular-size/redshift data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A compilation of angular-size/redshift data for ultra-compact radio sources is presented, which data derive from a 2.29 GHz VLBI survey undertaken by Preston et al. The sample has formed the basis of a number of investigations, which attempt to determine

Self-organization and symmetry-breaking in two-dimensional plasma turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The spontaneous self-organization of two-dimensional magnetized plasma is investigated within the framework of magnetohydrodynamics with a particular emphasis on the symmetry-breaking induced by the shape of the confining boundaries.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.
