Misalignment losses in fiber optic joints due to angular misalignment for arbitrary energy distribution

Optical Engineering, 1995
Although several models exist for calculating the loss in a fiber optic butt-joint resulting from angular misalignment between the fiber ends, these models generally assume an even energy distribution both across the face of the emitting fiber and throughout the emission angle.

Position and angular misalignment analysis for a wirelessly powered stimulator

2013 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest (MTT), 2013
This study investigated the effects in inductive coupling of wireless power due to the contribution of both positional and angular misalignment between the transmitter and implanted stimulator antennas. The implant antenna radius was limited to 1.5 cm for endoscopic implantation while the transmitter coil radius was kept at 21 cm in order to transfer ...

Ranging errors caused by angular misalignment between ultrasonic transducer pairs

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1990
Significant errors can occur in ultrasonic systems that measure the distance between separate transmitters and receivers when the transducers are not in angular alignment. This paper describes the results of experiments and numerical simulation to explain and quantify the ranging errors due to angular misalignment between ultrasonic transducer pairs ...

Vibration analysis of a flexible rotating disk with angular misalignment

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2004
Abstract The dynamic characteristics and responses of a flexible rotating disk are analyzed, when the disk has angular misalignment that is defined by the angle between the rotation and symmetry axes. Based on the von Karman strain theory and the Kirchhoff plate theory, three equations of motion are derived for the transverse, radial and tangential ...

Fatigue life of tapered roller bearing subject to angular misalignment

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2015
Angular misalignment, defined as the tilted angle between the outer ring and inner ring, is unavoidable in most applications of tapered roller bearings (TBRs) due to many potential causes such as shaft deflection, initial mounting error, bearing geometry inaccuracy, etc.

The influence of angular misalignment on fixed‐portal intensity modulated radiation therapy

Medical Physics, 1997
A method has been developed to estimate potential dose errors due to linear accelerator angular setting misalignments of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) treatments. A first‐order approximation to the dose error at a point is modeled as the dot product of the dose gradient and the shift vector of the point due to the rotational error.

Numerical Simulation of Flow Through Nuclear Fuel Bundles With Angular Misalignments

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2012
Comprehensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models are developed and analyzed in this paper to study the three-dimensional flow through simulated nuclear fuel bundles with angular misalignments inside a pressure tube. The large eddy simulation (LES) scheme is employed to solve the large scale complex computational models with an aim to ...

Axial motion of flat belt induced by angular misalignment of rollers

2009 International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2009
Flat belt widely used in many industrial applications suffers from axial motion when the centrelines of the rollers are not perfectly parallel. To reveal the relation between the belt axial motion and the angular misalignment of rollers, an analytic model for researching the belt axial motion in a 2-rollers flat belt system was first proposed ...

Effects of linear and angular misalignment on a spur gear pair

Insight - Non-Destructive Testing and Condition Monitoring, 2011
This paper investigates the effects of linear and angular misalignments on static contact parameters in a gear pair, taken at various points during the gear meshing cycle. The parameters of interest include the degree to which the load is shared among the teeth in contact (load sharing ratio (LSR)), the reaction forces at the gear centres and the ...

Fatigue performance analysis of stainless steel cruciform joint with angular misalignment

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures
AbstractWelding distortion causes the change of stress distribution of load‐carrying cruciform stainless steel welded joints, and the weld with angle less than 90° between steel plates became the fatigue performance control weld because of stress magnification.
