Critical angular momentum of light

open access: yesResults in Physics
The critical angle is the angle of incidence above which total internal reflection occurs at different dielectric interfaces, which is extensively employed in various aspects, such as optical fiber. However, these studies often limit the consideration of

Quantum orbital angular momentum of elliptically-symmetric light [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2012
We present a quantum mechanical analysis of the orbital angular momentum of a class of recently discovered elliptically-symmetric stable light fields --- the so-called Ince-Gauss modes.

Rapid Generation of Light Beams Carrying Orbital Angular Momentum [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2013
We report a technique for encoding both amplitude and phase variations onto a laser beam using a single digital micro-mirror device (DMD). Using this technique, we generate Laguerre-Gaussian and vortex orbital-angular-momentum (OAM) modes, along with ...

Chirality and the angular momentum of light. [PDF]

open access: yesPhilos Trans A Math Phys Eng Sci, 2017
Chirality is exhibited by objects that cannot be rotated into their mirror images. It is far from obvious that this has anything to do with the angular momentum of light, which owes its existence to rotational symmetries. There is nevertheless a subtle connection between chirality and the angular momentum of light.

Orbital angular momentum of light in optics instruction [PDF]

open access: bronzeEducation and Training in Optics and Photonics, 2015
We present an introduction to the orbital angular momentum of light for use in optics instruction. This type of angular momentum is a new fundamental concept discovered fifteen years ago. It arises in optical beams with helical wave-fronts. We introduce it as part of a fundamental discussion of the momentum of light.

Photocurrent detection of the orbital angular momentum of light. [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2020
Optical vortices on demand Light has several degrees of freedom (wavelength, polarization, pulse length, and so on) that can be used to encode information. A light beam or pulse can also be structured to have the property of orbital angular momentum, becoming a vortex.

High purity orbital angular momentum of light

open access: yesOptics Express, 2022
We present a novel technique for generating beams of light carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) that increases mode purity and decreases singularity splitting by orders of magnitude. This technique also works to control and mitigate beam divergence within propagation distances less than the Rayleigh length.

Nonlinear Conversion of Orbital Angular Momentum States of light [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Optics + Laser Science 2021, 2021
We investigate the second harmonic generation of light field carrying orbital angular momentum in bulk χ(2) material. We show that due to conservation of energy and momentum, the frequency doubled beam light has a modified spatial distribution and mode characteristics.

Conversion of a beam carrying fractionnal angular momentum in High-Harmonics Generation [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2023
Exotic light fields combining non-trivial spin and angular momentum may not be eigenstates of either the spin or orbital angular momenta operators. For these fields, it is relevant to define a Generalized Angular Momentum operator of which they are ...
