On the concept of angular velocity

European Journal of Physics, 1986
Recent articles in this journal have proposed that certain rather specialised mathematical formalisms (quaternions, or alternatively dyads) should be employed in the derivation of the fundamental equations of rigid-body kinematics. Here, to the contrary, the merits are argued of a description based simply on the properties of rotation matrices.

Angular velocity in rotating systems

Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1977
Errors in the recent paper 'Relativity of rotation' by Browne, (see ibid., vol.10, p.727 (1977)), are indicated.

Non-Colinearity of Angular Velocity and Angular Momentum

American Journal of Physics, 1974
There is described the principle, construction, and operation of a simple apparatus to demonstrate the non-colinearity of the angular velocity vector and the angular momentum vector. Some details of the theory are given, as are complete details for the construction and operation of the apparatus.

Angular Velocity and Acceleration

2015
In this chapter, a complete characterization of the angular velocity and angular acceleration for rigid bodies in spatial multibody systems are presented. For both cases, local and global formulations are described taking into account the advantages of using Euler parameters.

Trajectory tracking controller for quadrotors without velocity and angular velocity measurements

, 2017
This study presents a non-linear trajectory tracking controller for quadrotors without velocity and angular velocity measurements. The rotation matrix is utilised to represent the quadrotor attitude.

The Relationship between Pedal Force and Crank Angular Velocity in Sprint Cycling.

Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 2016
PURPOSE Relationships between tangential pedal force and crank angular velocity in sprint cycling tend to be linear. We set out to understand why they are not hyperbolic, like the intrinsic force-velocity relationship of muscles.

Angular Velocity and Centripetal Acceleration Relationship

The Physics Teacher, 2014
During the last few years, the growing boom of smartphones has given rise to a considerable number of applications exploiting the functionality of the sensors incorporated in these devices. A sector that has unexpectedly taken advantage of the power of these tools is physics teaching, as reflected in several recent papers.1–10 In effect, the use of ...

Oscillations in the angular velocity of pulsars

Astrophysics, 2011
Observational data on long-period oscillations in the angular velocity of pulsars are examined. The characteristic radii of the superfluid regions of pulsars are determined assuming that these oscillations are collective elastic oscillations of a superfluid vortex lattice (Tkachenko oscillations).

Intracycle angular velocity control of cross-flow turbines

Nature Energy, 2016
Cross-flow turbines, also known as vertical-axis turbines, are attractive for power generation from wind and water currents. Some cross-flow turbine designs optimize unsteady fluid forces and maximize power output by controlling blade kinematics within ...
