Propagating elastic vibrations dominate thermal conduction in amorphous silicon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Thermal atomic vibrations in amorphous solids can be distinguished by whether they propagate as elastic waves or do not propagate due to lack of atomic periodicity.

A Scheme for Ultrasensitive Detection of Molecules with Vibrational Spectroscopy in Combination with Signal Processing

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
We show that combining vibrational spectroscopy with signal processing can result in a scheme for ultrasensitive detection of molecules. We consider the vibrational spectrum as a signal on the energy axis and apply a matched filter on that axis.

Double-Well Potential : The WKB Approximation with Phase Loss and Anharmonicity Effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We derive a general WKB energy splitting formula in a double-well potential by incorporating both phase loss and anharmonicity effect in the usual WKB approximation.

Anharmonicity and isomorphic phase transition: a multi-temperature X-ray single-crystal and powder diffraction study of 1-(2′-aminophenyl)-2-methyl-4-nitroimidazole

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2014
The harmonic model of atomic nuclear motions is usually enough for multipole modelling of high-resolution X-ray diffraction data; however, in some molecular crystals, such as 1-(2′-aminophenyl)-2-methyl-4-nitro-1H-imidazole [Paul, Kubicki, Jelsch et al. (

Anharmonic Effects on the Thermodynamic Properties of Quartz from First Principles Calculations

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
The simple chemistry and structure of quartz together with its abundance in nature and its piezoelectric properties make convenient its employment for several applications, from engineering to Earth sciences.

Micro-Raman scattering of selenium-filled double-walled carbon nanotubes: Temperature study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Selenium-filled double-walled carbon nanotubes Se@DWNT have been studied by high resolution transmission electron microscopy HRTEM and micro-Raman spectroscopy in the temperature interval from 80 to 600 K employing 785 nm excitation wavelength.

Stepwise quantum decay of self-localized solitons

open access: yes, 1997
The two-phonon decay of self-localized soliton in a one-dimensional monatomic anharmonic lattice caused by cubic anharmonicity is considered. It is shown that the decay takes place with emission of phonon bursts.

Efficient Semiclassical Dynamics for Vibronic Spectroscopy beyond Harmonic, Condon, and Zero-Temperature Approximations

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2021
Understanding light-induced processes in biological and human-made molecular systems is one of the main goals of physical chemistry. It has been known for years that the photoinduced dynamics of atomic nuclei can be studied by looking at the vibrational ...

Multiphoton absorption and anharmonicity [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1996
Abstract: The multiphoton absorption mechanism of anharmonic molecular bonds in laser fields of high intensity is investigated. The time dependence of the absorbed energy as a function of field frequency is studied for a number of cases of varying anharmonicity and field strength.

Superfluid-Mott-insulator transition in superconducting circuits with weak anharmonicity

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate theoretically the ground-state property of a two-dimensional array of superconducting circuits including the on-site superconducting qubits (SQs) with weak anharmonicity. In particular, we analyse the influence of this anharmonicity on the
