Reactions for making widely used aniline compounds break norms of synthesis

Nature, 2020
Chemists generally regard benzene rings as preformed units that are elaborated to build larger molecules. This idea has now been challenged in reactions for making anilines — precursors of many high-value chemical products. A fresh approach for synthesizing anilines from non-aromatic reactants.

The Synthesis of 2-(2'-Oxazolinyl)Anilines and Some Related Compounds

2002
The 2-oxazoline system consists of a five-membered ring containing an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom and a double bond originating at position 2. Oxazolines have many uses, but their preparation tends to call for harsh reaction conditions, multi-step syntheses and/or the use of expensive starting materials.
