Regulatory compliance and support for altered management of the exotic pet trade
Abstract Globally, the exotic pet trade has contributed to species invasion, disease, and animal welfare risks. Although scientists have advocated for increased trade regulation, the success of management and regulatory efforts depends on compliance by participants in the exotic pet trade. We used a regulatory compliance framework to investigate exotic

Using customs data to understand overlooked trade in non‐CITES birds between Africa and Asia
Abstract The international trade in live birds poses risks to animals, people, and biodiversity. To effectively mitigate these risks, decision‐makers require information on the volume, dynamics, and direction of trade. Despite Africa once being the largest exporter of birds by region, very little data exist on recent trade in live birds not listed on ...

Exploring legal‐ and health‐risk messaging to reduce demand for elephant skin
Abstract Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) are poached for an illegal trade in their skins, which are used in traditional medicine in Africa and Asia. We explored whether messages about the legal and health risks of using elephant skin for medicinal purposes (stomach illness) could reduce such consumption.

VGLUT3 in 5‐HT neurons is involved in some aspects of learning, here in association with learning for reward, although not anxiety‐like behaviour. ABSTRACT A major subpopulation of 5‐hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT) neurons expresses the vesicular glutamate transporter 3 (VGLUT3) allowing the co‐release of glutamate.

Cytoarchitecture and myeloarchitecture of the sheep auditory cortex
This article describes the cyto‐ and myeloarchitecture of the sheep auditory cortex. It outlines a six‐layered cortical organization, with variations in cellular types and densities. The potential location of the primary auditory cortex is indicated by parvalbumin immunostaining.

ABSTRACT Aperiodic neural activity (1/f EEG) has been proposed to reflect the balance between excitatory and inhibitory (E/I) inputs, with steeper spectral slopes reflecting increased inhibition and flatter slopes indicating excitation. This activity is also thought to reflect the temporal coordination of neural firing, offering insights into ...
