Abstract Efforts to reduce livestock losses to large carnivores are widely regarded as essential for promoting human–carnivore coexistence. Predator‐proof enclosures, compensation programs, improved livestock guarding, and real‐time predator alert systems can reduce depredation and retaliatory killing while enhancing pastoralist livelihoods.

Habitat loss and extreme climatic events are particularly strong drivers of declines in species that depend on forested areas. Genetic, phenotypic, and ecological differentiation indicate a new cryptic and threatened species in the orchid genus Epidendrum from Alcatrazes Island, southeastern Brazil

Epidendrum insularis occurs on the remote Alcatrazes Island in the southeastern Brazilian coast. The description of this new cryptic species was only possible by the joint use of molecular markers, reproductive experiments, flower morphometry, functional traits, and community analysis.
