A spatio-temporal dataset of plant pests’ first introductions across the EU and potential entry pathways [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Data, 2023
World trade has greatly increased in recent decades, together with a higher risk of introducing non-indigenous pests. Introduction trends show no sign of saturation, and it seems likely that many more species will enter and establish in new territories ...

Exaptation and vulnerability to introduced mammal herbivores on Balearic endemic flora

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 50, Issue 6, Page 1117-1128, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Aim Introduced mammal herbivores are predicted to negatively affect insular flora. However, disentangling which particular traits (1) developed from exaptations and (2) are functional to avoid herbivory remains mainly unknown. This study aims to assess if the flora of continental islands with historic native herbivores are exapted to the ...

Cephalopods in the diet of Risso's dolphin (Grampus griseus) from the Mediterranean Sea: A review

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 725-741, April 2022., 2022
Abstract The Risso's dolphin, Grampus griseus, is a deep‐sea cetacean with a predominantly teuthophagous diet. Its distribution in the northwest Mediterranean is generally in deeper waters, but there is little information on diet or feeding areas. To extend knowledge of the diet of G.

Sex, males, and hermaphrodites in the scale insect Icerya purchasi*

open access: yesEvolution, Volume 75, Issue 11, Page 2972-2983, November 2021., 2021
Abstract Androdioecy (the coexistence of males and hermaphrodites) is a rare mating system for which the evolutionary dynamics are poorly understood. Here, we investigate the cottony cushion scale, Icerya purchasi, one of only three reported cases of androdioecy in insects.

Validation of virtual water phantom software for pre‐treatment verification of single‐isocenter multiple‐target stereotactic radiosurgery

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 22, Issue 6, Page 241-252, June 2021., 2021
Abstract The aim of this study was to benchmark the accuracy of the VIrtual Phantom Epid dose Reconstruction (VIPER) software for pre‐treatment dosimetric verification of multiple‐target stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). VIPER is an EPID‐based method to reconstruct a 3D dose distribution in a virtual phantom from in‐air portal images.

Monte Carlo simulation of conical collimators for stereotactic radiosurgery with a 6 MV flattening‐filter‐free photon beam

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 48, Issue 6, Page 3160-3171, June 2021., 2021
Purpose Conical collimators, or cones, are tertiary collimators that attach to a radiotherapy linac and are suited for the stereotactic radiosurgery treatment of small brain lesions. The small diameter of the most used cones makes difficult the acquisition of the dosimetry data needed for the commissioning of treatment planning systems.

Fine‐scale genetic structure reflects limited and coordinated dispersal in the colonial monk parakeet, Myiopsitta monachus

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 30, Issue 6, Page 1531-1544, March 2021., 2021
Abstract The genetic structure of animal populations has considerable behavioural, ecological and evolutionary implications and may arise from various demographic traits. Here, we use observational field data and molecular genetics to determine the genetic structure of an invasive population of monk parakeets, Myiopsitta monachus, at a range of spatial
