The Animist, Almost Feminist, Quite Nearly Pantheist Old Materialism of Giordano Bruno
2023Framed by the concerns of new materialist and new animist cosmologies, this paper explores the “old” animist materiality of Giordano Bruno (1548–1600). In his dialogical reconfiguration of Aristotelian metaphysics, Bruno proclaimed the divine animacy of all things by virtue of their shared participation in a material world soul.
