Boron removal by electrodialysis with anion-exchange membranes

open access: yesDesalination, 2006
Abstract The removal of boron from an aqueous solution was studied in a two-chamber cell separated with a commercial anion- exchange membrane as a function of current density, pH, type of the membrane, concentration and different type of salt solutions.

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Study on Synthesis and Characterization of Anion Exchange Membrane Based on Poly (Vinyl Alcohol) modified by free-radical polymerization

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2020
In this study, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) has been modified by free-radical polymerization (PVA-PVA). The formation of products were confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectra (13C NMR).

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

Investigation of membranes-electrodes assemblies in anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs): Influence of ionomer ratio in catalyst layers

open access: yesHeliyon
Anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) have recently attracted significant attention as low-cost alternative fuel cells to traditional proton exchange membrane fuel cells because of the possible use of platinum-group metal-free electrocatalysts ...

The Role of Ion Exchange Membranes in Membrane Capacitive Deionisation

open access: yesMembranes, 2017
Ion-exchange membranes (IEMs) are unique in combining the electrochemical properties of ion exchange resins and the permeability of a membrane. They are being used widely to treat industrial effluents, and in seawater and brackish water desalination ...

Poly(alkyl-biphenyl pyridinium)-Based Anion Exchange Membranes with Alkyl Side Chains Enable High Anion Permselectivity and Monovalent Ion Flux

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
Poly(alkyl-biphenyl pyridinium)-based anion exchange membranes with alkyl side chains were synthesized for permselective anion separation. By altering the length of the grafted side chain, the hydrophilicity and other attributes of the membranes could be
