Microfluidic Nano‐Assembly of Red‐Blood‐Cell (RBC) Lipids and Components for Engineering Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered red blood cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (eRBCEVs) are synthesized via controlled microfluidic assembly from native RBC lipids, enabling tunable encapsulation of proteins, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and viral vectors. The platform demonstrates reproducible nanoscale architecture, preserved membrane composition, and functional cargo ...

Radiation-induced decomposition of anion exchange resins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Radiation-induced degradation of the strongly basic anion exchange resin Amberliter (TM) IRA400 in NO(3)(-) Cl(-) and OH(-) forms has been studied. The research focused on the formation of molecular hydrogen in the gamma-radiolysis of water slurries of ...

Encoded Cell‐Material Interactions to Reroute Cytokine Signaling for Regenerative Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We present native MATRIX (Material Activated To Regulate Inducible gene eXpression), a co‐engineered material‐cell platform. Surfaces functionalized with antibodies for endogenous soluble ligands (e.g., IL‐1β or IL‐6) capture and immobilize ligands for presentation to a cognate, engineered synthetic Notch receptor, releasing a transcription factor (TF)

Sulfate removal from water produced during CO2 enhanced oil recovery, coal-bed methane recovery, and mining operations using anion exchange resins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Limited freshwater resources and expected increases in water demand are causing electric utilities to explore more non-traditional water sources, such as produced water from CO2 enhanced oil recovery (EOR), coal-bed methane recovery, and mining ...

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.
