Constitutive equations for anisotropic continua

Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 1998
Two classes of simple constitutive equations for continuous fibre-reinforced composites are introduced. In the first, the transverse and longitudinal viscosities are functions of invariants of the rate-of-strain tensor and the fibre-orientation vector. In the second, anisotropic yield conditions are imposed.

Anisotropic Modification of Maxwell's Equations

Physical Review D, 1973
This paper examines a modified form of Maxwell's equations, one designed to produce anisotropic light propagation in a vacuum. The equations predict anisotropies in the speed of light that behave as cos P and cos2$, where tI5 is the angle between the actual direction of propagation and some single preferred direction in space.

Magnetohydrodynamic equations under anisotropic conditions

Journal of Plasma Physics, 1997
Scaling analysis is used to derive approximations of magnetohydrodynamics with self-consistent leading-order dynamics under general conditions of anisotropy. Both incompressible and weakly compressible limits are considered. The horizontal magnetic and velocity fields obey dynamics given by a reduced closed set of equations, but the vertical ...

Anisotropic Sobolev embeddings and the speed of propagation for parabolic equations

Journal of evolution equations (Printed ed.), 2018
We consider a quasilinear parabolic Cauchy problem with spatial anisotropy of orthotropic type and study the spatial localization of solutions. Assuming that the initial datum is localized with respect to a coordinate having slow diffusion rate, we bound

Remarks on Local Boundedness and Local Holder Continuity of Local Weak Solutions to Anisotropic p-Laplacian Type Equations

, 2016
Locally bounded, local weak solutions to a special class of quasilinear, ani-sotropic, p-Laplacian type elliptic equations, are shown to be locally Hölder continuous.

Global existence of weak solutions for compressible Navier--Stokes equations: Thermodynamically unstable pressure and anisotropic viscous stress tensor

Annals of Mathematics, 2015
We prove global existence of appropriate weak solutions for the compressible Navier--Stokes equations for more general stress tensor than those covered by P.-L. Lions and E. Feireisl's theory.
