Design with anisotropic materials

2004
In Chapters 1 and 2 we have concentrated on the generation of optimal topologies based on the use of isotropic materials within the framework of “classical” black-white (or 0–1) structures. Early developments in topology optimization were build around the employment of composite materials as an interpolation of void and full material.

Anisotropic Elasticity and Multi-Material Singularities

Journal of Elasticity, 2001
Abstract Multi-material wedges associated with convergence of geometrical and material discontinuity generally show singular stress fields. Under a temperature load, the different sectors of the wedge experience incompatible thermal expansions.

Anisotropic Constructive Shearwave Interference Measurement of Transversely Anisotropic Materials

2018 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2018
Fibrous tissues, such as skeletal muscle, tendons, and myocardium, have been shown to support orientation-dependent shear wave propagation. It has been shown that shear waves can be induced and measured with ultrasound to assess such anisotropy. Existing methods have required either a successively-rotated linear array, precluding real-time imaging, or ...

Linear Anisotropic Elastic Materials

1996
The relations between stresses and strains in an anisotropic elastic material are presented in this chapter. A linear anisotropic elastic material can have as many as 21 elastic constants. This number is reduced when the material possesses a certain material symmetry.

Anisotropic Hardening of Initially Orthotropic Materials

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1979
AbstractA hardening model for an orthotropic material is proposed. The corresponding anisotropic parameters are the components of a fourth order tensor function of the plastic strain, entering a quadratic equation for the yield surface. Assuming polynomial dependence on the plastic strain, the most general form of a polynomial fourth order orthotropic ...

A Beam Theory for Anisotropic Materials

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1985
Beam theory plays an important role in structural analysis. The basic assumption is that initially plane sections remain plane after deformation, neglecting out-of-plane warpings. Predictions based on these assumptions are accurate for slender, solid, cross-sectional beams made out of isotropic materials.
